    Suggestion: Everyone gets one post

This should resolve a few things.

    1. Posters that continue to slam others posts instead of simply posting their opinion.
    2. Forces posters to really think about what they want to say because they get 1 post to do it.
    3. Helps keep topics that would only be 3-4 pages from turning into 300 page novels.
    4. Reduces flaming.
    5. Makes the forums easier to moderate

Everything posted on this forum is opinion based, your opinion can be anything you want it to be, but you only get one opinion. Your own. Post it and move on.

So you want forums....that have no discussion...

I would dislike your idea if i could.

Yeah. This isn't a very good idea for anything really.

The idea DOES have some merit. I would say yes, with the caveat that it be an option the thread creator can turn on when they create a new thread, and it's off by default.

In order for this to be effective, however, you would also need to limit editing, otherwise people would simply take their one post and continuously edit it to reply to other posters.

What good is a discussion board that only gives you your one initial opinion? Every argument has a dozen different sides to them, and different angles to look at them from. Limiting members to one posts will completely eliminate constructive opposing views. This is why Player Polls exist. You get a series of questions and you pick an option or you write an opinion. There is no need to limit a forums thread to 1 post per person.

The current problem is few are actually starting discussion.
Here's a rough layout of most of the threads I've seen on this forum. (most of which are in general discussion)

OP suggests a change or idea
    P1 no that's a horrible idea, here's why
    P2 no p1 you're wrong it's a great idea
P1 no, i said it was bad
    P3 it's a great idea
    P4 it's a great idea but
    P1 it's terrible didn't P3 and P4 read what i said?
This goes on and on for pages.
Sometimes it's one person opposing, but usually it's multiple posters just arguing back and forth.
The threads don't seem to be generating new ideas, just simply supporting or opposing the original idea with same opinions just reworded.

If the Moderators would start putting an end to this by removing posts where posters are just arguing without bringing something new to the table then I wouldn't even be suggesting this.

As for developer forums for MMOs. I think this is a bad idea. Games that the majority enjoy are being played. While these players are playing, those that don't like something (no matter how balanced or well thought) go and complain on the forums. In the end the squeaky wheel gets oiled and players that were happy now may find themselves wondering why the game is unbalanced suddenly.

I think that the player polls was a terrific idea, everyone is informed of the poll. Everyone has the opportunity to say rather they like things the way they are, or whether they would like to see this or that change.
While it's true that even with the majority of players having a say vs just those that like to squeak.
This isn't 100% perfect either, for example, full control of player assigned stats.

    Pros:
Your character will feel more unique to you.

    Cons:
Your character will end up about the same as everyone else.
Game play becomes more difficult to balance.
Players that actually want something unique feel limited because of sacrifice to key stats.
Overall game mechanics ultimately get dumbed down.

Some may read those pros and cons and think I'm nuts.
From 1-50 you really have little to no use for Int, Pie, or Mnd if you are a melee class. At 50 when you start fighting NMs that use very damaging elemental attacks you'll suddenly need Mnd.
So now you need to take from what used to be your main 3 and balance across 4.
If you want to create hybrid like Paladin, Blue Mage, Redmage, you're stats are going to suffer.

I don't want to turn this into a huge discussion about the problems of my suggestion, or the player polls.
The problem here is the rampant arguing with little being discussed.

I'd like for us to show that we as a community of gamers can actually overcome problems like this, and make this forum a place for great ideas to improve this game.

Almost. If a discussion has that many sides to argue, then it can stand on its own merits and be posted by various people, instead of the 'two people arguing back and forth' that currently runs rampant in this forum.

We're looking at it from two different angles. You're seeing it as eliminating constructive opposing views, I see it as eliminating needless bickering between one or two people.
