@Yoshi.P, release your grip of madness on our video settings!

Yoshi.P stated that the current lowest settings for our video options is the "lowest they will ever go while still maintaining the beauty of the game", obviously I paraphrased.

Here's the deal though, when "beauty" starts to impact "performance" or even the ability to enjoy the game that becomes a major negative aspect to your product.

Shadows should NEVER NOT be able to be disabled. Right now we can only tune them down, but they're a MAJOR reason that people are having such bad video lag. Shadows, are normally one of the #1 things i disable in ANY game so my FPS stays above the micro-stutter of 40fps.

There's bump-mapping EVERYWHERE!! Even with everything on lowest possible settings I can still count the visual imperfections that the lighting system is casting on a wall (ie: i can tell a wall is made of brick, sand, mud, wood, etc). This looks beautiful, but drastically impacts performance on people with lower graphical ability.

View Distance, another HUGE factor in MMOs. Why is this not even an option??!

[Insert the 10+ odd standard gaming graphics options]

Seriously Yoshi, you guys need to learn how gaming works. Graphics options are one of the more robust things you should be providing, both UP and DOWN on the spectrum.

Speaking of higher-spectrum options, WHERE ARE OUR HQ-TEXTURES FROM 1.0?!

Yea, that's right, we had high-res textures for the same equipment we have now in 1.0, but are mysteriously lacking in 2.0.

Come on Yoshi, learn from your mistakes !!!!!

For textures, You could barely play that shit up in 1.0. You required a SUPER PC FROM NASA.
And it looked kinda bleh, esp. the ugly Copypasta lookin' grass thing.
I'm not one to be all up in the air with graphics, the games graphics look fine to me, and I'm running PS3.
It doesn't need to be visually stunnin' like TERA. Adding more options for lower-end PC's wouldn't hurt.
But lately, after this patch people been having some problems all around.

Final Fantasy games are typically very beautiful games visually, so I can understand why there is a baseline of what the developers want other players to see, but I don't understand why there aren't options to dumb it down. If someone wants to play the game but can't handle anything beyond N64-level graphics, should they not still be allowed to play? Beautiful visuals are meaningless if your game putters along at 10 fps.. it directly impacts gameplay which is far more important to any game. As long as the visuals are FUNCTIONALLY sound, then it shouldn't matter. Players with older computers can still play and it encourages them to get some hardware upgrades to experience it 'as it was intended'. It means an expanded userbase and more money for SQEX. Not having lower settings, assuming such settings would directly impact gameplay, just seems... vain of them.

No, my 2yr old PC (at the time of 1.0's release) could run it at 46fps just fine. So needing a "Super PC from Nasa" is hyperbole.

Agreed completely, when a developer is more interested in FORCING people, rather than giving them the option to, run at extremely high graphic settings then there's a problem with management that needs to be resolved quickly.

My computer of 5 years old runs the game just fine on high settings with around 40-50 fps.

View/render distance is definitely something I would like control over as right now when weather effects obscure what's in the distance my frame rate jumps a solid 20 or so fps.

Render distance is something I definitely agree is a necessity, but as for your other complaints... get a new computer?

    All I get out of this thread is;

    My computer is old,
    I can't run this game,
MAKE IT LOOK WORSE PLEASE SE.

Just invest in some upgrades and you'll be fine.

Nobody is saying the game should look worse for everyone else. There should be options that allow for lower settings than what is currently available. To be honest, the graphic settings of this game are VERY few. Being able to turn off shadows should be an option, as well as controlling view/draw distance. Including such basic options would allow for more players to enjoy the game at smooth framerates, meaning more renewing subscriptions. To just tell off other players by saying 'get a new computer' is pretty rude. SQEX shouldn't be forcing players to play the game at these baseline graphic settings if the only reason is because they made it beautiful and they want to make sure it is experienced as such for everyone. If lower graphics settings would not impact the functionality of the game negatively then there's no reason why such options aren't available and it should fall to the player to invest in better hardware for a more visually pleasing experience.

Given the choice of running the game with awe-inspiring HD realistic graphics vs never going under 30 fps is a no-brainer. If you're playing the game at 10-15 fps... you are going to be a burden to your party with your delayed reaction times. Not to mention it doesn't matter how beautiful it looks if you're watching a friggin slideshow.
