If you make your own group you could go with no tank. I single tank Ifrit HM for some of our runs. You don't "need" the 2 tanks for any of the primals honestly but it does make it easier on Ifrit and Garuda

Thanks, this is the answer I was looking for. I'm probably going to primarily run level 50 stuff with my FC so I just wanted to know how flexible we could be with our party makeup rather than using the standard that the Duty Finder builds for you.
Ifrit isn't really that difficult at all if people have any ability to button, and while there are certainly many ways to work out stunning Eruptions, a competent PLD remains probably the least stressful option, so from that perspective, 2 tanks are still worth thinking about. PLD can just park in Sword Oath and once they know the pattern for Eruptions, they can mostly DPS and everyone else can forget about stunning entirely.
Titan's the only thing I know of at the moment which doesn't really benefit from having 2 tanks (either in terms of needing 2 for mechanics or because a PLD makes for an excellent stun whore). Naturally, if ARR Tribe is anywhere near as competent as XI Tribe, I doubt stun orders and a single tank will be a major issue for various content.

You could, but it's not a hard fight, and PLD is just the easiest option. Stun on other jobs is on a long cooldown whereas PLD is just on the GCD.
