Ul`Dah is a desert city, I've yet to see a bright, vibrant desert city that wasn't artificial, i.e Downtown Las Vegas Nevada.

Just turning up the saturation would help. There's red and blue tiling throughout the city, and colored domes and banners, but you'd never know it because everything is so desaturated it looks grey-brown.

I can describe X's Mushroom Rock Road or VII's Woods where Aerith was buried *spoilerslol* VIII's Fisherman's horizon but when trying to for example describe the fields outside of LL I'd be at a loss of words to tell anything to tell how it looks like.

"It's like a field with some gray stone in it I guess..." Makes you excited to play doesn't it?
I see your point, but come on, if you compare memorable areas from selected past games to a random field of FXIV, it will obviously make XIV seems dull lol

I agree that many zones look repetitive but XIV still manages to have breathtaking views, just go visit the ''Screenshot Thread''

I keep hearing this excuse. To clarify, it's a (wealthy) Final Fantasy desert city. Anything can happen. Doesn't mean colors and trees and glass don't make it to the desert...

I like the coloring of the city's. There could be more pops of color as in flags though. I think that color should come from the characters themselves through clothing and accessories.

    Ok I see your point.

I'll make it more clear. The same reasoning can be used by using the desert, woods coerthas and LL as an example as all of them would be hard to describe as anything unique. That covers about the biggest chunk of the entire game.

Comparing those to the previous FF games still gives the same result. XIV is a bland mess that lacks memorable locations.

Just like everything else, the cities don't seem finished and color is certainly needed. I'm not saying every city should get a rainbow, but they don't all have to be a two color themes either. You can keep the theme in place without going with only two colors.

Nice pics in the OP by the way

Yeah, good point. I don't think every city needs to look like a rainbow, but have a color theme other than just white, or just brown/orange. And of course, more assets like grass areas, windows, etc.

walking npcs (like you see in the limsa intro movie) workers at the harbor, or caravans in uldah with chococamels or whatever packed with rich ornamented carpets and clothing would also spice things up.

Also i miss the differences which we will hopefully see in the future by more zones we will be able to access (like noble quarters or something, sewers, catacombs (for uldah) - uldah could be the remains of an even bigger city and has a huge system below the city...

some cats or hungry dogs on some places, who just run away when you get close would be awesome as well.

having shops close at nighttime and just some people with lanterns, guards roaming would be great for the mood as well and offer additional quest options, night/daytime quests. that would be great fun and immersion imo.
