I was just talking to a good friend of mine about this - he isn't really interested in doing any of the side quests but I have been working on them city-state to city-state. I described how it worked in FFXI and wondered if down the road this would lead to fame/reputation paths. I kinda hope so as long as it led to a reason for it (like accessing certain other special quests and we all remember the Avatars).

I'd like it, but don't make it so you pretty much have to grind trade-in quests to max it out within a couple hours. Make doing a variety of quests actually viable. They didn't pull this off very well in FFXI.

They already do have this, to some extent, via faction standing related with guildleves. Though, they should definitely expand upon it somehow

If the devs. were to implement it for something completely optional I wouldn't have a problem. Thing is if it's going be like FFXI it was kinda mandatory for most people, especially SMNs. I'd rather have a chain of quests that lead to the cool reward. It's more fun than handing out cabbage to the old man in Selbina to open Trail by Ice, imo.

Btw, i'n not against reputation, but in ffxi was painful, and in wow they were too many. I'm just bored of reputations
It wasn't painful in FFXI, only was if you decided to skip quests and the missions, because:

    1. You get fame for doing all unique quests
    2. You get fame for doing missions, and a boost of fame for hitting rank 10
    3. There are repeatable ones where you can make small fame -and- decent money.
    4. Abyssea fame makes you a -shit ton- of money because you can convert curor into armor which you can then vendor a whole set for a good 100k+

Fame is a good thing because it pushes you to do quests, but these days gamers only care to level through quests.

It may sound like a stupid question, but are we just assuming that there is no fame system right now or has it been stated?

I mean, I realize that i if there is fame at the moment, it does not matter, but there is a possibility that it is recorded somewhere for later purposes. And in a sense, I feel that the sidequests related to the grand companies will be sequential so there is a certain form of ''fame building'' here.

I think a fame system is necessary to make you feel like you contribute to the world, because all those sidequests taken individually do not give a strong feeling of accomplishment. If more fame = more challenging and more rewarding quests available, I'm all for it.

In XI it was only a pain for those who wanted to shortcut to the important rewards right as they started playing. I hope the devs will look into this question.

There's no visible fame system in XIV currently as there aren't a slew of quests or NPCs that has an obvious "you need x fame level to get my quest/info" yet.

Isn't this essentially what the guild marks system provides? The more you've done for that guild, the more of their stuffs you have access to.

the fame system is a cool idea, it just needs to be a tweaked version of FFXI's.

Maybe, but it's expandable. Once you spent your marks you become a 'rookie' just like any other adventurer?

Now if you needed a certain amount of fame in Gridania to be able to purchase rank 30 lancer ability in the guild, for example, that would be different
