Really? I'm pretty sure the state the game released in was the cause of that. I agree that random topics don't help the game. Thats why they need to go into an off topic forum instead of punishing people for saying harmless things.Discussing random stuff isn't improving the forums. A lot of developers have been moving away from off topic forums because they aren't really all that beneficial. Fan sites are actually incredibly beneficial to MMORPGs. The more fan sites get out there, the more exposure the game gets and really off topic things are best off elsewhere. If you're not interested in improving fan sites, then you have too narrow of a focus and it's not helping the game. That type of mindset drove it into the ground in the first place.

How about people actually pay attention to the rules and purposes of forums like this, and then they will not get "punished unnecessarily"?
Because it's going to keep happening as long as there is not an off topic forum. Again why should they have to punish people for something so frivolous. Just move them to off topic and be done with it.

Why do you think these flame wars, trolls etc. you refer to would settle in an off topic forum only? It is more likely that there will be multiple places that gets flamed instead. Habits are hard to break, especially if there's no will to do so.
No the flame wars will never go away. But instead of deleting off topic threads and punishing the people that made them they can just focus on the flame wars.
