I have a lot of memories on XI, it was the first MMO I really put time into. But I don't want to fight another crab for 5 minutes just to get 100xp on an EM. It's worse when something was "too weak to be worthwhile" killed you and you were 20 levels above it or more (sabotenders, I'm looking at you). After the game uncapped from 75 it became too different. Abyssea just made zone parties obsolete. Sure there was still some teamwork, but it's more akin to an instance than the regular parties of yore. Also waiting on some NMs was just a whole lot of nothing, I did it plenty of times myself and got some great gear--and some even better memories, but I don't prefer doing it. If I wanted it I'd go back to XI, there are still strong communities there. XI was nice for its day, but I like the direction XIV is going. There's enough to remind of XI here but with a (opinion) better pacing.

I kinda agree. Everything that isn't an instance really easy. I do miss those epic, FRAPS-worthy moments that were in FFXI, especially the old dynamis runs that made you pay dearly if you didn't work together, Sky-God tier necessary coordination, and the changing difficulty of things like Limbus/Salvage/Nyzul Isle..

At the same time, I don't think they would be able to work the same way in this game, as they did before. The theme is similar, but the mechanics are different. The fact that there is no claiming means that everything epic would have to be semi-instanced at least, or your King Behemoth would just get FATE-zerg'd down, leaving you with no sense of accomplishment. It's the Hardcore vs Casual argument, and it was already implied, if not stated flat out, that this game is going to cater to the latter. There are the hard/extreme fights/instances, but from what I understand, they're pattern-based and don't really have that random element to them.

    Just gotta live with it.

I dunno why these open world NMs weren't brought to the game... or rather why they were removed... it would have given some competition to people that makes things interesting.

I hate how nowadays everything has to be "fair" for everyone to achieve...
I have never been a hard core player but I always admired people who had all the super gear from HNMs in FFXI. Ok, so it takes time and dedication to claim some highly wanted mobs, let alone learn to kill them, but I always think great rewards should only come after hard work.

I can see that in couple months 50% of players of FFXIV will have relics and the best gear possible and the rest are working on them.

And, no, I don't think triple melding materia to your gear is "hard work" - the best gear should always come from dungeons and NMs.

"Add Notorious Monsters Final Fantasy XI style into Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn"

You don't like my reply to the thread title so, you choose to speak out of context.. Look Neasa, this has been discussed in the beta forum, and you know what the reps said? No. Yes, even they don't like it, which means not everyone likes it.

Putting what the OP wants in this game is contradictory to the system we have right now. It will not work.

SEDF logic. How about we not add any other things from previous FF titles? You just want FFVII-2 or FFIV-2. FFXIVARR doesn't need that!

FFXI NMs were fun, but I don't think they will work on FFXIV. The reason I say this is because there are thousands of people connected to a FFXIV world at a time, with more incoming soon. I can guarantee that an NM will die almost immediately after it spawns, every time. To make matters worse... I don't think it will just be a handful of people camping the NM... Instead, it will be DOZENS of people camping that ONE NM at all times of day... even if its drop is virtually useless. It will be incredibly frustrating and even isolating for the next generation of MMO players (the ones who can't or don't want to sink many hours a day into it). I don't think it is in SE's best interest to add FFXI-style NMs, as much as I did love the game and enjoyed NM camping.

I agree to a point with you Ryuko that the FFXI style NMs wouldn't work, but I think the old 1.0 style NMs would.
If the NM doesn't give you 10000 xp, people won't bother camping it constantly.

In 1.0 the NMs were subtle and occasionally dropped a nice piece reflecting their level, like for example the Cactuar Jack near (old) Horizon. It didn't drop anything THAT special, it was just a nice little add on to the scenery.
Of course there are always going to be NMs that are more fought after (Think Leaping Lizzy in FFXI) but I think that is the case in every game, not just Final Fantasy.

I think I just miss exploring and coming across random little NMs that are slightly different from the every day mobs. I know I can come across FATE NMs the same way, but they are highlighted with cat size marker on the map and by the time I get there, the montser will be dead.

NM have their pros and cons, as do FATE, so I think a compromise is in order. Why do people what NMs? Isn't it because of the thrill of encountering something rare, the possibility for cool loot? But why don't people want NMs? The hours of camping, possibly loosing the claim and turning those hours into a waste?

So what would be optimal would be for the pros to be added in, but without the cons. I think the current FATE system can provide this. There are already rare monsters that spawn during FATE and there's already a system in the game for rewarding items if you do well enough.

I think both camps can be satisfied by adding in rare FATE monsters that, if you gain a gold medal, will reward you with gear instead of just vanity items as they do now.
