I think SE's direction is you should be able to log-in and have something to do at all time. Whether it be Guildleves, Tasks, Side-quests, Dungeons, NMs, and etc.

I think that's always a good approach to have. But, in saying that, there are juat so many ways of implementing "a bunch of things to do" so it doesn't really add a lot of clarity to the discussion.
True, it doesn't add much clarity but we don't have much to go on anyway. The only thing we truly have is Yoshi-P saying he wants to improve party play but doesn't want people losing game time by waiting on parties.
I think when Tanaka was in charge it was more:
Massively multiplayer Online Role Playing Game
Now with Yoshi it is more:
Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game
So which one do you think is better? Oh yeah you should enlarge and bold Role Playing for Yoshi, considering he's implementing class and rank gear, also he's also creating more distinctions between the classes.
That's more like role-imposing than role-playing (classicaly speaking).
And I would never presume to know which is better. It's a value judgment anyway, not a factuality. People like different things. And different people will prefer one over the other.
I just wanted to know which one you prefer. That's all, if you don't want to answer I understand. But you're right, to each their own.
