Something I Noticed That Is Deeply Saddening

Two words to all those that keep going on how this is the worst ever, Hellgate... London. Aw, you can't get into servers? Try bluescreens every play session. Imagine if everyone got legacy status, with the perks of collectors, because something similar happened at random in Hellgate. There were server troubles too, but that makes this look like a cakewalk. Random exploits? Yep, you didn't even have to know you were doing them to have them happen.

The game here is fine and stable, the servers are the only real issue. Doesn't even come close to worst ever.

Didn't have an issue with Hellgate London at launch. I can say the same thing for D3 and Simcity. For some reason I didn't have issues with those.

Sir, I would like to shake your hand, as you are quite literally the ONLY person I have ever heard say that, about any of those 3 games. I personally experienced Hellgate and Diablo 3, though SimCity was never my style, so I missed out on that.

Things to consider:
-Launches are always going to be this bad. It was this bad for Ragnarok Online, Star Wars, Lineage 2, TERA Online, and just about every Blizzard game ever. Servers will forever be woefully inadequate to handle the launch week stress because..
-After a month or so, the population culls. People either figure this game isn't right for them, or whatever. After that, if a dev has all these extra servers and no one on them, they're just burning money. See: Star Wars the Old Republic, TERA

Those games aside, what we should all really remember, S/E admitted "Hey we fucked up with 1.0," but instead of a oh sorry, we got "we are going to destroy our own world, make it part of the actual story, and try to earn back your collective trust." Which takes balls that even Superman could not punch into the sun. I applaud that at the very least.

And I'm not white knighting here,I do see the valid, reasonable complaints of S/E's ill preparedness for these problems. But as so readily pointed out, shit like this is somewhat expected during a launch. As I saw in another thread, I'll just keep on keepin' on. It's the petulant ones I ignore. I suggest we all do the same. Plus, Free to play with be going away eventually, which will weed out a large portion of the populace,

And OP, I completely agree with you... For now, I'll just bide my time, and give them a fair shake to get things running smoothly. I hope everyone else does the same, and later we can all laugh at this. Doubtful, but a cat can dream, can't he?

Plus, look at all the leve's we will have saved in the down time, right?

Guild Wars 2 had a spectacularly terrible launch in addition to Hellgate London. In fact they employed several of the things that SE has been doing this week. Restricting access to servers and completely shutting down digital sales from their websites.

I am not saying that this type of thing is acceptable from any game company, but this is hardly the worst or first time this has happened.

It's hardly the worse... there's Knight Online legendary half a year worth of Error 255 where you manage to login but cannot join any server because this error keeps popping up when you try...

I played tera for way to long. Besides horrid D-sync and class imbalance i never had to many problems via servers. And i have been bidding my time. Put about a thousand miles on my bike and played more Smite then i think is good for me.
Hell i think S/E is on to something here. Alot of people find it hard to quit an mmo. So 1017 errors might be the new weening mechanic. S/E the humanitarians in disguise!

Won't matter they will just find something else to complain about.Just like the beta forums. First it was the combat, then it was the fates, then it was the pricing and that it wasn't free to play, then it was that theres no boobs or butts, then it was that lightning was in the game, then it was that you didn't have 100,000 more options, then it was that not everyone had legacy, then it was that beta was only on weekends, then it was that they did a character wipe before phase 4, then it was the servers. After servers get fixed it will be something else they complain about like why doesn't this game have pandas? or why doesn't this game support triple fire and only crossfire, then it will be why is it going to take another 6 months for the expansion, then its going to be why do I have to pay for expansion?Then why did they do server maintenance this month while I was trying to run a dungeon for the 600th time, then it will be why did the expansion only have 5 new classes and not 10, then it will be why is the next expansion still a year and a half away, then it will be why can I only create 8 characters per world and not spam my gil selling website? Then it will be why is this game still up after 2 years? It will never be good enough for most of the people who are on here and the ones who truly enjoy it will pay and play and be damn grateful for it, the rest will hop around and make the exact same threads 9000000 on the next MMO to come out and nothing will ever change even when the gaming landscape does. Keep on Keeping on though my little furry friend.

In all seriousness, SE was ill-prepared, and they know it. It's embarrassing and unfortunate that they probably will lose some players over this, a launch that needed to be golden after the 1.0 disaster. I think they should have gotten a clue about server inadequacy after open beta. But at this point, there's little more that can be done, so it does no good to complain anymore. The server upgrades happen tomorrow. The only thing else I would like to have seen is Yoshi-P also offer a round of free server transfers for those who couldn't create characters on the servers of their choice a week ago. There are people in my FC who are still waiting to join us on Balmung and will have to start over if they do.
