Something I Noticed That Is Deeply Saddening

Won't matter they will just find something else to complain about.Just like the beta forums. First it was the combat, then it was the fates, then it was the pricing and that it wasn't free to play, then it was that theres no boobs or butts, then it was that lightning was in the game, then it was that you didn't have 100,000 more options, then it was that not everyone had legacy, then it was that beta was only on weekends, then it was that they did a character wipe before phase 4, then it was the servers.

Grass. Don't forget the complaints about grass quality.

In all seriousness, SE was ill-prepared, and they know it. It's embarrassing and unfortunate that they probably will lose some players over this, a launch that needed to be golden after the 1.0 disaster. I think they should have gotten a clue about server inadequacy after open beta. But at this point, there's little more that can be done, so it does no good to complain anymore. The server upgrades happen tomorrow. The only thing else I would like to have seen is Yoshi-P also offer a round of free server transfers for those who couldn't create characters on the servers of their choice a week ago. There are people in my FC who are still waiting to join us on Balmung and will have to start over if they do.

I read these threads when every MMO comes out, then afterwards it's like everyone is brainwashed and the next comming MMO is the worst launch ever.

Didn't have an issue with Hellgate London at launch. I can say the same thing for D3 and Simcity. For some reason I didn't have issues with those.

-Launches are always going to be this bad. It was this bad for Ragnarok Online, Star Wars, Lineage 2, TERA Online, and just about every Blizzard game ever. Servers will forever be woefully inadequate to handle the launch week stress because..
-After a month or so, the population culls. People either figure this game isn't right for them, or whatever. After that, if a dev has all these extra servers and no one on them, they're just burning money. See: Star Wars the Old Republic, TERA

Sorry, but TERA and SWTOR didn't have such issues. There were hiccups but nothing on this scale.

I do agree with surplus servers. But hey...you plan for the worst. It's not like you can't offer free transfers or merge servers (and if you announce in advance you'll do that after population stabilises maybe you won't get as much "game is dying coz they're merging servers, hurrr " threads).

You didn't experience it, so it never happened, right?

At least they've put a halt on digital (first-party) sales so you have less people to compete with currently. This is money out of their pocket, as well as the potential start of subscription income. Third-party stores are a different story, however I know many companies that would/do still push their product even at the detriment of current/future customers.
