Poor performance from a high-end build?

    Build:

    MOBO: z77 fatal1ty performance

    GPU: GeForce GTX 670

    CPU: i5-3570k @ 3.4ghz

    RAM: 8GB DDR3 Corsair Vengeance

    PSU: TX-Series 750W Corsair

OS: Windows 7 64-bit Home Edition

With my specs, I can't even run the game on High (Desktop) with a stable 60 frames. It's very unstable in cities which is somewhat expected, but even outside the city questing I get this same problem. I use Unigine to benchmark my GPU considering the Extreme HD feature on it pushes your GPU to its limits. Having FPS between 35-40 means you can generally run any modern game at 60+ FPS.

    Unigine Extreme HD Benchmark:

    FPS:
    40.5
    Score:
    1695
    Min FPS:
    22.0
    Max FPS:
    76.6

My computer can run other games perfectly fine such as Saints Row 3 and Skyrim on Ultra. I understand MMOs can not necessarily be compared with non-MMO games in terms of performance, but this game is decently optimized from what I've been told.

I have the latest beta drivers for my GPU and I have even freshly installed Windows 7 trying to find some sort of problem that I could fix.

My temperatures are fine when running as well. My CPU stays at about 40C and my GPU runs at about 50C.

like XI, this game is very dependent on your CPU and by extension memory bandwidth, might want to look at that as well. I saw a marked difference between testing with my old XP box when I ran at stock 3GHz and overclocked to 4GHz. It was almost a flat 25% increase in both benchmarks and FPS (used ATT's overlay to watch it in real time)---just from changing the FSB.

If you don't want to overclock the CPU, you might be able to cheat and adjust multipliers/bus speed combination to enhance the bus bandwidth a little. Might help some.

I'm not too familiar with overclocking. I wouldn't mind trying it though.

This game is actually more gpu intensive than CPU though your graphics card seems ok. I actually wouldn't overclock it because it does wear your processor out faster. A slightly better graphics card would probably be better. Www.videocardbenchmarks.net would be a place to start. I can't remember what the minimum for the game to run on is but I believe yours is only slightly above minimum though I might be wrong so try not to flame me too much

My card is #5 from the top on the high-end graphics card chart.

Don't O/C your CPU isn't meant for o/c, you'll burn out your cpu causing it to process much slower in the future.

Depending on the brand of your graphic card, it could be either Entry level or enthusiasts level.
If you only spent around $200-$400 that's the entry level range.
The enthusiast level are from $500-$1500

I have a GTX680, 32gb of ram, and a high end i7 cpu and just like you I have bad performance but only in certain places.
While I think the game could be somewhat better optimized, I think that maybe the overpopulation is exacerbating the performance drops in places like cities since in my experience with the game the big frame rate drops tend to be when I get near areas where people are gathered.

    Running on MAX FFXIV Settings.

    AMD Crosshair V Formula-Z
    AMD FX-8350 8 Cores
    AMD Radeon 7950
    16GB G-Skills
    Thermaltake 1000W Tough Power
    Thermaltake Level 10 GT Case
    Windows 8 Pro 64-bit

The FPS are display within FFXIV.

    Max FPS:
    135.2
    Min FPS:
    45.8

Remember, cooling is extremely essential to high FPS.
Make sure your system isn't a laptop and that your desktop has sufficient airflow.

I also speculate that your power supplies may be lacking, and unable to push your hardware when it needed most.
