say, why do people earn money from doh or dol? The only profit source of crafting and gathering is from players buying item to gear themselves. However for FFXIV, the quest give "ok" gear ever 2-3 level. at lv 45-50 they give out blue set that has higher stat than even green dungeon drops. So basically there is no need to buy gear. That lead to the ultimate question, where does the money come from?

    For Non-legacy:

At least for now, Relic Quest Weapons. As a 50 Goldsmith, I have made a KILLING selling Relic Quest weapons for 80-110k on my server. I am a 50 miner myself, so it literally costs me around 15-20k to create them and the rest is pure profit.

From a DoL standpoint, those "rare" nodes that spawn once an hour. Until their are more miners and Herbalists, on my server all the 46+ miners have banded together and are selling darksteel ore for 7.5k a piece. The botanists are selling spruce lumber for like 15k.

Does relic quest take 1-2 months for stone for myth? With this game is so casual for lvling, wouldnt people just craft it themselves?

I'll just answer this. The one tried-tested best way to make money in FFXIV is:

    1. Have 7 alts
    2. Have one main that has level 50 all crafts.
    3. All of the alts flag All of the crafting levequests they are allowed, per day.
    4. Have your main craft HQ versions of whatever is needed to turn in for all your alts.
    5. Turn in HQ versions of everything to complete the leves, netting you 300% gil for every turn in.
    6. ???????????
    7. Profit.

    You are most welcome.

EDIT: This is how RMT do it, by the way. This'll get nerfed eventually.

DOUBLE EDIT: This is ridiculously boring and tedious, and quite time-consuming. However, it doesn't rely on the markets at all, is all NPC generated money, and is guaranteed. This is BY FAR the best way to make millions upon millions of Gil.

So far the best way I've found to make profit is to find out what items are hot for DoH leves and sell those items on the open market. For example, Horn Glue is used for an alch leve in ul'dah. They currently sell for 3-4k a pop on Excalibur, but cost a 10th of that to make.

In 1.0 I had 8 digits worth of gil. I only played for roughly 6 months but spent most of that time playing the economy and making money.

Now I have 7 digits worth of gil. I should probably stop being so frugal. Next time I log in, I'm gonna make it rain on the steps of nald.
