This is exactly what I'm wondering. I hear healer and tank don't perform very well, but I'm wondering if that's just at low levels. Attacker seems to be the best from what I understand, but everyone who says healer is terrible is only like level 1 or 2. Anybody with a higher level choco give some insight?

they are better as dps companions. they hit decently hard. it takes FOREVER to rank up the chocobo after rank 2 since they only rank up from kill xp. it doesnt produce much threat nor does it heal very well. you can't control how it heals - it tends to only heal itself.

Right but I'm wondering in the long run if the threat issues and low healing problems get better.
