I'm a non-legacy player, playing on a legacy server. Level 32 on my primary. I'm quite savvy with making gold without grinding in MMO's and have been doing a little buying/selling and crafting on the side, and presently have ~85k

I suspect that legacy players; having a larger pool of gold are more readily parted with it for their low level classes as I've noticed that provided a market isn't saturated I've been able to charge quite extortionate amounts for low end items and have them sell (ie. ~2000g for a copper choker that costs ~15g to make). On the flipside, it means trying to enter into a more mature marketplace - I've seen people advertising items for sale asking in the 0.5-2mil range, which suggests that legacy players might have huge reserves of gil which'll make entry into the high tier item market extremelt difficult for a post-ARR entry player

Overall I find the monetary dynamics of MMO's quite fascinating to watch, makes me wish i had some formal education in economics.

I won't deny that some certainly do have high reserves but I still believe it is the minority. Most of my legacy players started ARR with well under 200k. SE really handled the re-denomination very well. Most of them have earned more in the story line than they had to begin with so it put most of us on par with the new players or at least not too far out of reach. I do know some people that started with 2,000,000 but to make 20 mil in 1.0 was really reserved for the hard core or craftaholic crowd.

I do actually have a formal education in Economics and it very much applies. Economics at it's root can be summed up as the laws of supply and demand and identifying those characteristics in an MMO is simple most of the time. You have to understand the curve of means to really leverage it though. On legacy servers this is really high as a large portion of the population have the means to offer the supply. But, at the same time there are new players which artificially curves the demand in a secondary slope.

At a basic level one need only look at what they can supply and then find a demand that fits in that. For most new players that is going to mean farming mobs for the majority. Investing your time in gathering and crafting is still smart but it will be slower until you reach the higher levels. We are about at a tipping point back to low level gear as many of the new crowd is approaching 50 on their main class/job they will be starting over on lower levels again.

Additionally, supplying crafters with gear itself is another great option to make money. Crafting unlike grinding is hard to do without the proper gear, you can't just run or take advantage of other players to help. And the rewards from the quests don't cover it all. Most of my money comes from actually making HQ versions of lvl 50 crafting gear.

I know you don't want legacy peeps (sorry) but I have a little over 90k. Only think I had at the end of 1.0 was my 2 aethernet passes, that SE transformed into 40k a piece.

Don't worry, I just had problems with legacys who claimed the 1.0 values, creating rather...interesting...replies.

I just logged into my Legacy guy to see, and for some reason he was a lot lower than I remember. I remember having 40+ fishing in 1.0 and he had 31. He had like 325k though leftover. Anybody know why levels might be so different?

Just under 50 mill now as I dished some out to kit out LS/FC members and bought all new gear as most of it was "dated" and couldn't do anything with it. If it wasn't for that though only thing I would be spending anything on is Teleports and going forward I can't see me spending much as all the best gear is dropped from dungeons and is rare/ex

30k on character, spent a lot on teleports and crafting,
    30k on retainer
probably 100k in tin, bronze, silver, and gold from dungeon, and picking the money reward from quests. For my gear past 20, I just FATE grinded seals and equipped dungeon and GC gear which is a lot better than quest gear.

    level 42 PGL
