I've actually been monitoring the weather. It seems it changes every 8 hours:

day 8/32

00:00 - rain stopped. foggy sky.
08:00 - started raining again
16:00 - sandstorm began
24:00 - started raining again.

It seems every two weathers, its rain

9/2 and it still hasn't stopped raining lol

One of the Ul'dah gateguard quests was to investigate the recent growth in the area's wildlife too. I bet they tie in the new battle system as adventurers needing to learn a new style of fighting in order to defend against this new threat.

When trying to log out it happened to me a few times after the patch but I figured it was a bug.

So, if the 6th Umbral era was of the water element, I guess each umbral era is tied to an element. I wonder what element the 7th Umbral era will be - and how that will affect Eorzea.

Ice = Ice Age?
Earth = Earthquakes?
Lightning = Lightning storms?
Wind = Storms and Tornadoes?
Fire = Heat?

The 7th Umbral era belongs to the Winds, if they want to keep the same order as with Moons and Suns.
