    Here is the issue:

    Market prices.

1000-10000 gil SHOULD feel like a lot but when you have players who sell crafted gear for 50000-500000+, it makes no sense. No item is worth that much. Only solution is to not give in to crazy prices.

An hour of farming those would net between 50k and 100k. It would take you 20 hours to earn similar leveling an "Alt"
Perhaps, but some people enjoy leveling alts. Y'know, on a game. Which is designed for fun. So really, it's for more than "appearance reasons". Especially on a game where you merely change your main hand and bam, new class.

Getting back on point, your ideas are valid, to a degree. I farmed dungeons for a few hours yesterday, and due to unlucky rolls I ended up losing money rather than making some, so it's not without risk. However, when I can eventually log in I'll check out the mobs you suggested.

Non-legacy player. I had nearly 300k when I first hit 50. I quested a lot til 45 (but did not clear zones), then ran Fates til 50. I did these things with the occasional dungeon. I teleported frequently. I picked up Weaving and leveled that to 28 so far, farming my d-webs instead of buying. The money started coming in at level 30. I chose money from quests every time I possibly could. The Allagan tokens add up!

Edit: Did not sell any drops for money. I'm a pack rat!

Only level 50 gear sells in that price range and generally it is really rare items. Furthermore there are two solutions, level the craft that makes the item or join a FC/LS that has crafters that can make it. Everyone in my shell makes everything for one another. Granted we are legacy and most of us have at least 1 50 craft but we have a lot of newer players who we also make gear for and all that is required is to farm or buy the mats themselves.

Personally, I craft a lot of HQ stuff and all the failures (NQ) go into the free for all page of the company chest. If you look around you can find nice supportive players to play with.

The worst part actually is that people are still not understanding of the fact that items cannot be bought individually off a stack. So even for people with a lot of money, a material that costs 3k is affordable but not when someone is selling it in a stack of 99...

Well then, to our resident Legacy player, would you say all gathering/crafting proffs are equally viable, or is there one that stands out as the 'cash cow' of them all? (Pretty much every mmo has that ONE...)

I understand that people (Especially RP crowd) like to do this but you are setting yourself up for a huge disadvantage by doing so. Either you will end up leveling all jobs on all alts or they will consistently be gimped. This is especially true in gathering and crafting as those are unrestricted cross class skills. In order to consistently HQ items on a craft you need at the very least, the skills from 3 different crafting classes. Same goes for botanist and miner, having both, greatly increases your ability to gather HQ items.

Actually no, they are all pretty much equally profitable. There are some that are worse than others and those are primarily fisher, armorer, alchemist and culinarian. Miner, Botanist are somewhat equal with favor being miner. Goldsmith, Weaver and Leatherworker are all highly used. Blacksmith is not quite so much but still good.

My suggestion is make sure you make your gathering and grafting classes synergistic. Meaning. if you go Botanist, level weaver and carpenter. If you go miner level Goldsmith or Blacksmith and Leatherworker. If you don't want to do a gathering class level Leatherworker and Alchemist since most of theirs are mob drops.

Oh, I see the misunderstanding, I apologise, I'm still using the term 'alts' after 10 years of non-FF mmos, I meant uh...sub-classes? I intend to level them on THIS character. My mistake.

Yeah, I'm leveling up bot with carp right now, but I have to say, if I chop down one more tree I honestly might go out of my mind.

Any mobs to keep an eye out for while leveling other jobs? (As in, 'at level 20 kill these bla bla at 40 try these bla bla' for valuable drops?) I'm really just trying to get a good foothold (And perhaps even a good reference topic for fellow players) over here :P
