    Concerning AFKers And Login Queues

So I was playing, doing my Arcanist 15 quest (this was about 3pm EST), and then as I was loading outta the duty the game crashed. I can't get back on at all. At first it was giving me an issue connecting to the world (not 1017, but like 10102 or something, now I get 1017 though). I was curious what might cause me losing connection from the world cause of going from the instance server to the game world. And I wonder why there's no priority for me for a few minutes to get back on the game cause your servers kick me off. Now I have to deal with this login bs..

And can you guys explain why you don't have auto-disconnects for inactive players? Can you explain why there are no working login queues? Even if it's 90,000 people I have to wait behind, at least that'd be something instead of me sitting here clicking or hitting 0 until I finally get in. Can you also explain to me why Japan has the same amount of servers as the entirety of North America and Europe? There's especially no excuse for that. There coulda been a lot more data gathered if you guys had an open beta for more than 2 days so you could properly stress test your servers and prepared more servers before early access/release. Why didn't you guys delay the release until the servers were stable?

I don't necessarily agree that 7 free days is making up for this. I mean, I have to work, I can't stay up util 3am hoping to get on. I'm not gonna cheat and use some program to keep trying to log me on when I am asleep either. This server issue is getting too stressful. And you claim that early this week updates will be done, why weren't they planned from even before early access incase this happens? This isn't your first MMO launch, technically it's not even your second if you wanna consider 1.0 an entirely different MMO launch. And not only that, why not take note of ALL the other MMOs out there and how they have had launches like that. Sure we can go with that most MMOs have woes when they launch, but I'm kinda tired of that excuse. Just because companies think too much about money and trying to maximize profits they often skimp on the servers and leave us to deal with the woes. I just see nothing but failing right now and I can understand why it'd be a pain, but some things should have bene there from the start and I've yet to see anyone on SE's team discuss the lack of auto-disconnect feature or the login queue or such things. When will those be addressed? Or if they were, please point me to it.

I ask for you all to do two things for the community, take down the servers and add in an auto-disconnect feature (Surely that can't be too hard, I know, I've done them before in my work) and fix the login queue to actually work. When you do those two things, at least them waiting for the server upgrades won't be such a painful wait. And it will benefit you in the long run as well as the rest of us.

At least come out and admit you err'd in not having an auto-disconnect aspect to the game. We have seen this done before many times in other MMOs. Even FFXI had it (though you could disable it, change that so you can't disable it). Then just punish those who use third party tools to stay online.

Completely agree with the original poster. They keep giving statements about how they are "upgrading the servers". How about adding an AFK kicker? That would actually help more. There is no reason anybody should be logged into the game if they aren't doing anything. It's completely ridiculous and a waste of server space and resources. It seems odd to me than such an amateur mistake was made in terms of programming.

I don't need a third party tool to keep me online. People that want to stay log in will find a was to stay log in even with a afk auto disconnect.

I love the official forums, they tell you to use the search for thread about what you wanted to talk but when you use it they judge for necro a thread.

Agreed my husband and I have had to change servers 4 times since last week.... Really were so annoyed we can not even play together. Its really frustrating, and I was hoping this weekend being a long one we could play.

Eh? If they add in an auto-disconnect for afking/inactivity then they would have to use something to keep them logged in. And such things can be detected.

You know... you can just go to the inn and auto-run to the wall and that don't count as afk to the system.

There's multiple ways of detecting the most basic anti-idle methods. For example they could check if someone has been in the same zone for 30+ minutes AND hasn't interacted with anything AND hasn't changed their direction/movement. If any of those trigger within 30 minutes, boot them.

Sure there's still ways round that too, but it'd be a good start.

Final Fantasy XI had auto-log off. If they implement that in XiV in a smart way, it wouldn't be PR issue. You have a set time from 10~60 to auto-log (by default) unless you switch it to 'off'.

In case in-game users find this too convenient, every time you log on, you have to go through the motions in the "character menu" to switch it 'off' again. I also find it convenient to reset the auto-log off option when you enter the INN to receive that "resting bonus". SE should make users aware when they need to reset their auto-log off timer. It work both ways, for the users in the game already and those still trying to log on.
    =====================
I also wanted to suggest another timer for auto-warp or return. A return to the INN after the auto-timer runs out. Would be best to add a auto-teleport to the INN since it also adds to the reset of the "auto-log off" timer. (peace!)

Please be advised that this works better if you posted in the feedback section. I think I could do that for you by copy & pasting this post but maybe someone will beat me to the punch.

exactly they have no idea that a Anti-afk system will not solve anything. the world isnt really full the data center queue system is full, and there is only a queue because SE put an artificial cap on each server to prevent things like the duty finder servers from crashing or prevent overloads in the starter zone crashing teh whole server.

Look at it this way putting the artificial cap on "SOME" player get to play on a smooth non laggy server and enjoy the product. Do not put the cap on and servers constantly crashing then "NO ONE" gets to play.

FFXI had reasons to stay logged in (Bazaars). FFXIV has no such reasons, except to save your place for when you want to play later.
