what is it with this weird arguments anyway?

full glowing gear and light-stick weapons? No one asked for it.
Why is it that people hear about visual effects and immediately think of a
cheesy WoW sword and then assume SE could do no better and
all those who request it have no taste?

Lantern shield is a great example of how it is done right.
Now imagine rings with a subtle glowing crystal or gloves that only have a small rune glowing,
rare weapons and gears with small details, particle effects and such.

If your imagination is very limited there is no need to obscure the requests of others.
(I am not directing this post to anyone specific, it is merely my thought in general)
People ask for stunning designs and others try to make it look like they ask for Galkas with fairy wings... sad

Exactly. SE is so proud of the detail they put into this game thus far so why not enhance it even further? That's why I believe the pic you provided was a great way to implement such effects. We aren't looking for WoW effects but something that keeps the fantasy appeal.

Final: Something to be taken seriously as it will wrap your emotions into it
Fantasy: Amazing effects, visuals, and very imaginative

This is just a summary of how I always seen it and I think some people forget this and focus too much on the realism aspect.

I think the issue is while SE is known for detail it's not unknown for design choices to be done haphazardly and poorly. Hell I'll use Ultima Online as an example once again.

Original games armour. Notice it has colour yet isn't off the wall.

When they added Neon...everything At first it was a few select almost impossibly rare items that could be dyed special colours or be obtained in such a manner, then it spread to ALL equipment...andthen eventually you could dye your Skin Neon Green and your Horse mount Candy stripe pink...

Ultima Online armour is now as bright as a Double Rainbow all the way...full on...

It's not that I am against the idea I just think we need to be clear as a community as to what we mean by "Glowing" effects.
