The Game's Economy Is Out Of Kilter!

Basic business = buy wholesale and sell retail. As best I can remember from my college business classes, a "normal" retail markup for "average" clothing is between 50% and 100%. Therefore, when selling inventory to a Vendor I was expecting to see the prices paid to be around half of what they charge their customers. Imagine my shock when I discovered they are paying alarmingly paltry amounts!

For now, I am forced to sell the stuff I make as a Weaver (Light Armor, Gathering togs, Crafting togs, cloth) for between 1-gil and 5-gil. This is punitive in the extreme. Since I do not yet have access to a Retainer, and, therefore, can't sell my items via the "Auction House," I have no recourse but to sell to NPC vendors when my bags are full.

For example: An NPC shop keeper sells a Straw Hat for 226-gil. If I make the exact hat and sell it to a Vendor, I will receive 2-gil. WTF? 2 lousy gil??

Please, SE! Change your economic model.

Anders, thatis precisely so that you are aboslutely unable to make any degree of profit through selling to NPCs and is required to sell to other players. It's retarded economy in order to completely dissuade you to be a part of it

Are you unable to have retainers? I thought you get just from finishing level 10 or so in the main story line (so a couple hours work at most?). This would then open up retainers for you to you can sell on market. Surely better to do this then sell for 1-5 gil.

The economy was designed to encourage selling on the open market. By having prices at vendors 5 gil, you would gladly sell on market for 50 gil rather than 5 gil, therefore increasing the market availability for buyers and lining your own purse.

Please give it a try and see how it works out. If it is still not working, then please discuss and we can see what can be improved.

Don't worry, all of that starter gear you're making (assuming since you don't have a retainer, therefore lvl ~20), sell on the AH for 1-5 gil as well.

retainers are a lvl 20 quest not lvl 10, or more like after you complete a lvl 20 main story quest.

    This.

The game's economy is fine, you should honestly just avoid it until you have a retainer. If you're crafting that much at your level, you must have absolutely NO gil at all, unless you are constantly doing gathering and farming small creatures for items.

Seriously, stop crafting, and work on your story quests. you will get to unlock retainers with a level 20quest.

Also, if you want to make money in this game, its better to just gather, and sell what you get.

    Thank You, All

Thank you for the informative replies. I will take your advice.

I am soooo looking forward to having a Retainer.
