Unable to update the group NA/EU Character List but no maintenance is on

So yeah I am having issues with this Unable to Update NA/EU Group at very random times. I was trying to log in today and I saw my character, but world was full. I tried like 11 more times (usually takes 50+) and then I got the Unable to Update Error. I have to close the game completely, relaunch it and try again. Sometimes it happens right off the start, other times after I've tried for a while. What IS this error? Server communication bug? Latency issue? CPU explosion??

Well let me say that seeing this error is a thousand times better than not loading the servers at all!!!!!

I completely appreciate teething troubles, I know how these things work, I forgive any company for that... what I can never condone is poor customer service, when thousands of players are trying to play and get nothing but error codes and blank screens with no info as to why they are down or at least feedback that problems are being resolved then you are not providing customer service. People are paying to have access, if they cant have access the very least they can have is customer service representatives to keep them in the loop. Not having this is making a bad situation much worse, exacerbating existing ill feeling and only sullying the square-enix name further.
Game is good, servers will get fixed, but don't fail your player base this early by shutting them out.

Agreed. Most people holding pitchforks right now might cool their jets if they just received info regarding the specificity of the problem they are dealing with. Frustration can easily be alleviated if the customer support kept us more in the know. Just thought I would concur on this one.

P.S. I got kicked when I was crafting HARDCORE! Too bad so sad.

Been playing all morning, then around 4 or 5 this afternoon I would booted. When I went to login I got the 2002 error code for a while and now I'm getting the "Unable to update" massage.

Aye, kick AFK players and everything should be solved in the short term. And let's be reasonable about it, stepping away to eat or taking a short break for an hour is totally reasonable imo. 3 hours eh that's kind of pushing it... 3+ though KICK!!!

Same as you Rixh, I have not been able to populate US/EU servers for about 2 or 3 hours this time, normally it does not take this long without a matinance. I was wondering if there was one going on now? or am I just screwed? Did they lock us out ? What's going on anyone know?

I appear to be able to see the servers and my character now, so I suppose it's time to get back to playing Final Fantasy X-XVII: A Realm That's Currently Full.
