Doesn't surprise me in the least. Final Fantasy has always borrowed names and creatures from various religious/mythological stories from around the world. I wouldn't be surprised if FF was the #1 Mythological Name-Dropping Franchise of All Time.

That would probably go to the Shin Megami Tesnsei series. Just about every monster and summon, along with some characters, are from various mythologies and folklore from around the world.
