What if one were to go out and purchase another copy of the game and apply that registration code correctly to their originally intended service account? Would that work?

Of course, it would work. If you value your time or long distance phone bill more than $30 - just go to a store and buy a new game copy.
ADD GAME CODE TO CORRECT EXISTING ACCOUNT NOW
Later on when the issue gets resolved you can try charging back or making a deal with SE to get your money back somehow.
If you bought CE when they resolve your ticket, a CE game code will apply to your main account, don't think extra 30 days will, though.
Well. I might just do that then. Only thing is, I put in a ticket already requesting them to merge my service accounts; should I revoke that merge request before I go out and buy a new code?Of course, it would work. Don't see any reason whatsoever why that wouldn't work. I'd be willing to do that (really don't have much faith in SE's customer "support" whatsoever) if they hadn't halted sales of digital download, and it's impossible to get hold of a hard copy where I live. Unless I order it, of course - but hey, with my luck my account will actually be fixed by the time I receive my hard copy.
