There is legitimate confusion about what the change means, and this is my understanding but I could be totally wrong:

There is a difference between "monetizing" a video, and "monetizing via the YouTube partner program". The latter would run advertisements before the start of the video. So videos that don't have ads are okay.

Is this correct?

I don't know, at least when I click on an FFXIV gameplay video I won't be subject to other people's annoying music.

It's probably more to protect the image of the game anyway, say if someone changes their BGM files to 1.0 or other FF music. SE needs the game appearing on top form, which I can understand.

I don't even know why the OP is focusing on the line about monetizing videos made from FFXIV. That has got he be the least important of the issue.

I see the main issue lies totally in music and audio. Even during 1.0, people made videos that did not have game music, but "Third party" music, and they did not get the banhammer because there was no such copyright usage rules then. And youtoube has plenty of "audio only" soundtracks from 1.0. Why suddenly have them now?

I, for one, partially like this. I don't want people showing videos of the game solely for money. They're either going to give the game biased reviews (good or bad), or they're just going to do stupid stuff (like getting banned) to get more views.

But then you got this in the guidelines

You may not monetize your video via the YouTube partner program or any similar programs on other video sharing sites.

It's cancelling each other... Or does this mean SE can add ads on your video's and monetize via YouTube and other programs BUT YOU personally can't do it yourself??
