Exactly... FF11 music was great and all but everyone is stuck on it , yet it had only a few true FF style tracks. 14 Has easily gone back to the Final Fantasy feel in the music department, just needs to be cleaned up a bit^^FFXI has better music than FFXIV? What?
This is pure example of people who are too stricken with nostalgia to hear straight.
No, it isn't better. Yes FFXI is a great game yes it has good music but a lot of the music contains recycled beats and lacks spirit. Compared to most FF games, only a small handful of songs really stick out.
FFXIV contains a lot of variation and a lot of style, and it conveys mood quite well. Some songs not as good as others but its soundtrack is better than XI by far.
I disagree maybe some was recycled etc.. the point is the music fit the mood quite well especially in battles in field or dungeons, bosses, bcnms and so on. I'm not saying all the music is bad in XIV but the good stuff is barely even heard, it's like in a few cut scenes etc. The music likes and dislikes is purely personal and to me most battle music blows expect in the 2 northern zones. To be honest I guess battle music only makes a appearance in NM fights because all other battles last for like 5secs.FFXI has better music than FFXIV? What?

I'm also going to have to disagree with the OP. I think that overall the FF14 soundtrack is fantastic. There are a few tracks that I don't particularly care for, and a few that do seem a little out of place. But I really like most of the tracks, and some of them (like "Answers") are outstanding.
I enjoyed the FF11 soundtrack as well. To be honest, I own most of the CDs. But I don't think there were as many standout tracks. I suppose there were if you add in all of the FF11 expansions, but I think that FF14 has a higher ratio of quality tracks.
Overall, I think that Uematsu is one of the best in the business. I love his stuff, and I really hope that he remains the composer for future FF14 expansions.
Well said *^.^* (Answers is my fav track for 14 Hehe, 14 also has the best choco remix I've heard in a FF title before)I'm also going to have to disagree with the OP. (yes yes, I love Susan's voice, it's so....strong..... I'm so-so for the remix of chocobo, but the orchestrated version is DEFINITELY awesome.)
One word to describe the majority FFXIV's soundtracks: bombastic. I quite like it....
...And whoever mentioned that the region of La Noscea has the best tracks overall, I agree wholeheartedly. On Windy Meadows (La Noscea's theme) just makes me....tingly over all, and I sometimes find myself singing and harmonising with it. It's one of the reasons why I got into the game after listening to it repeatedly on the FFXIV website. Navigator's Glory is my favourite out of all the city themes, it's just so...grand....and actually fits in with the feel of Limsa Lominsa. Nail of the Heavens just makes fighting anything epic, even jellyfish.
Coerthas just makes me tear up. So simple, yet so moving....and it's battle theme is awesome. And so is Mor Dhona's....while Coerthas' theme doesn't really fit it's expansive area, I'm sure there'll be some kind of lore explaining the theme....perhaps something sad happened to the landscape?
The only theme I don't really like is Emerald Labyrinth. It's too.....repetitive....and sharp. Otherwise, FFXIV is one of my favourite soundtrack collection.
I actually do like the sound track, but I do admit when you hear the same song for 2 hours straight it tends to get boring. Sometimes you just need to mute the game music and listen to something else.
Strangely enough from most reviews I've read the music and graphics are the only the reviewers liked. I actually enjoy the music although previous FF titles are typically better.
the music is good but it doesnt fit the game and it feels like all the songs were composed without knowing how the game looks like.
i haaaaate the music in Thanalan ...the song itself isnt bad but i dont want to hear this kind of music while walking around in this kind of area, not in an mmo!
Oh you, FFXIV forum posters.FFXI has better music than FFXIV? What?

"The older game has better music? That's just nostalgia I much prefer this random rock garbage battle theme and extra dull zone music". The problem with XIV's music is that it does not suit the game's setting at all. XI had no problem in that department. Every zone had a theme that expresses the area, the cutscenes had music that match the mood, and the battle themes didn't violate my ears even after I heard them a thousand times over. Can you really compare Gustaberg, Ronfaure, and Saruta to Thanalan/La Noscea/BLACK SHROUD. I don't think so. Hell the only decent tracks in XIV are the boss theme that plays when you fight a very anticlimactic end mob in faction levequests and Coerthas battle theme.
Saying the soundtrack is "better than XI by far" is like saying the market wards are better than having an AH. Even Aion had a better OST than XIV. I like Uematsu's work but he seriously dropped the ball with this one.
I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.
