    well I find this really stupid by SE to lock players out of there starter worlds that they made their first characters on. and don't want to increase server capacity so all those who have paid for the game can get their moneys worth and SE can live up to their agreement. that they proposed in order to get people to play. I find it really sad that they have a really good game going and are soon going to lose a lot of players because they won't /don't want to increase server population or open up new worlds and offer free instant transfer of all characters on an account to allow those of us who cannot play because of the world lock they put in. which is more annoying then anything I have experienced in a newly started MMO. to deprive paying customers the opportunity to play the product that they are paying for is down right criminal.

    Well these are the types of details I think most of us were waiting for. While I am still not pleased at the current situation, at least now I know why its taking so long to set things right.     You must get past the Login Mini Game supplied with FFXIV. That is the true test. people are complaining about the login mini game being too tough. It takes practice. The more you practice the easier logging in will be. Beware of the Mid level boss, the Delivery moogle. After getting past 1017 you have to defeat him. If you do not you will have to start over.

    It is stupid, but the only other alternative is shutting the servers down for no reason. Please don't confuse me with an apologist, I just wanted to point out that they screwed up didn't anticipate these numbers and simply have to choose between the two evils. According to Yoshi's recent post, they finished installing the hardware upgrades and are now working on installing the software & configurations.

    See, this is the mentality that's causing even more issue and will eventually grind things to a more complete halt than it already is (as difficult as that may seem to be).

    Let's start this off simply... we have a game that's difficult to log on to, so people struggle to get in during peak then complain about the trouble when they do manage to get in because someone else logged off. These people swear never to log off and go into AFK idles whenever they're not playing, logged in 24/7. Let's say that's about 1% of the server population. Well, now instead of having a revolving 100% server pop, we have 99% with 1% being on lock-down. Doesn't sound bad...

    Next round, slightly more people have problems, still not awful, 1% more of the population chooses never to log off. 98% population circulating, 2% lock down.
    Next round, more people have problems due to the lowered pool, 2% more choose never to to log off. 96% population circulating, 4% lock down.
    Next... even more people have problems getting on, they get annoyed... 4% choose never to log off, 92% population circulating, 8% lock down.

    Now if this is exponential, by the time we hit round 6 we're down to 34% population circulating and 66% locked down... 6 days and over half of the spots on the servers are people AFKing continuously.

    Imagine if this were a Supermarket with a limited number of carts, and in order to get in the door you need a cart. Imagine that by day 7 you couldn't shop because people were bringing the carts home with them just so they'll have one the next day. It's a crude analogy, I know, but it's the same idea.

    ■現在の同時接続者数状況とこれまでの想定について■
    Regarding current amount of simultaneous connections


    先日ダウンロード版の販売制限をアナウンスさせていただいた際の予測どおり、同日日本時間深夜に、最大同時接続者数が21万8千人に到達している状況です。FFXIVは全世界にサービスを展開しており、時差の関係でそれぞれのピークタイム(混雑時間)が異なります。仮にこれをひとつのタイムゾーンとして測定しなおした場合、約30~35万人同接という状況です。
    The other day we announced the halt of download version sale, and as predicted, that same night during midnight hours in Japan greatest amount of simultaneous connections reached up to 218,000 connections. FFXIV is serviced throughout the world, and due to different time zones the peak time varies. If we measured all time zones as one it would be about 300 to 350,000 simultaneous connections.


    皆様がご存知の通り、新生FFXIVは旧FFXIVの経緯もあり、MMORPG市場では類を見ない、2回目のローンチという状況で、販売予測としてはもう少し緩やかな立ち上がりを予測していました。幸いなことに非常に多くのお客様にプレイしていただける初動となり、かつ皆さんが熱心にプレイしてくださることから、ひとりでも多くのお客様に安定したゲームプレイをしていただくため、当初想定していたサーバーの許容量をギリギリ越えないよう、ログイン制限を実施することとなり、皆様にご迷惑をおかけする状況となってしまいました。販売予測、ならびにサーバー許容量予測の見誤りは吉田の責任です、申し訳ございません。
    As all of you know, FFXIV;ARR has past experience of previous FFXIV, and went through something that hasn’t been seen before in a MMORPG market where it goes through a second launch. So as a sales prediction we were predicting a lighter start. Fortunately we started off with extremely large amount of customers which are playing a lot. In order to make sure we can deliver a stable game play to our customers we have placed a login restriction so it barely doesn’t go over the server capacity. This has caused inconvenience to everyone. The sale prediction, and server capacity prediction was my own decision and is my responsibility, I deeply apologize.


    ■なぜログイン制限が必要なのか■
    Why the login restriction is needed.


    新生FFXIVの1ワールド当たりの同時ログインキャラクタ数(キャラクタ作成数ではなく、
    単位時間当たり同時にプレイできる人数)は、5000人を想定して設計されています。
    これを超えるキャラクタがログインした場合、サーバーダウンやログイン障害を引き起こす可能性があり、
    そうなった場合、サーバーダウンからの復帰でログインラッシュによる高負荷発生、
    IDの認証多発などが連続し、結果的に全ワールドに影響が出てしまうことが予測されます。
    In FFXIV ARR the amount of simultaneous login characters for one world is structured around 5000 people (not the amount of characters created, but the amount of players that can play during that time). Once the amount of characters logged in goes over this amount, it can cause the server to go down, or cause issue during the login. If this happens, it will next lead to login rush once the server comes back, leading to issues for ID (Instance Dungeon) and in the end it will affect all worlds.


    そうなってしまうと、サービス全体への影響を維持できなくなるため、やむを得ずログイン制限を実施させていただくことでこれを回避しています。ただし、この制限は常に実施しているわけではなく、24時間ワールドの収容人数をモニターし、各ワールドに少しでも空きができた場合、制限の解除を細かく実施させていただいています。
    If that does happen, we will not be able to offer service so, we by placing the login restriction we were able to avoid this. However, we don’t have the restriction placed at all times, we have someone monitoring the worlds 24 hours and if there is even any space available for that individual world, we are carefully removing the restrictions.


    皆さんがお住まいの地域の現地時間午後9時から午前0時くらいまでが、混雑するピークタイムとなり、おおむねこの時間帯は混雑によって制限がかかりやすくなっています。このログイン制限は後述するワールドの追加や、負荷分散処理により解消できる見込みとなっていますので、今しばらく全ワールドの安定運用のため、ご理解とご協力のほど、よろしくお願い致します。
    The peak time in your region is from around 9PM to 0AM (local time), during this time it is more than likely to have the restriction in place. This login restriction will be resolved with by increasing additional worlds, and/or balancing out the stress load. We would like for your understanding and support until the all worlds gets into stable operation.


    ■キャラクタ作成制限について■
    Regarding character creation restriction


    前述しましたように、1ワールド当たりの同時ログイン人数は5000人を想定していますが、実際に作成できるキャラクタ数は、当然ながらその数倍を許容量としています。しかし1ワールド全体で同時にプレイ可能なのは5000人ですが、そのワールド内でプレイヤーの皆さんが、複数のエリアに分散したとき、はじめて収容可能となる人数となります。
    As mentioned earlier, we are assuming the amount of simultaneous connection in one world being about 5000 people, however the amount of characters you can create is about double of this amount. Although the amount of players that can play simultaneously is 5000 people but if everyone in that worlds spreads throughout different zones, it will be able to accommodate all.


    特にゲームスタート直後の数日は、まだ皆さんのキャラクタのクラスレベルが低いこともあり、低レベル帯にキャラクタが集中しがちです。極端に低レベル帯にキャラクタが集中すると、モンスターの枯渇や、ゾーンサーバ高負荷発生など、やはり障害となってしまう可能性が高くなります。
    Specially right when the game starts, everyones character class levels are low, and everyone ends up concentrating in low level areas. If extreme amount of low level character concentrate in one spot, it will lead to no monsters (not enough mobs to cover everyone), and also causes high stress on the zone server leading to problems.


    皆さんのプレイ時間、クラスレベルは個人のプレイ状況によって大きく変化するため、ある程度プレイ時間帯や、クラスレベルが分散してくるにつれ、ログイン制限同様に、キャラクタ作成制限も、徐々に緩和していくことが可能となります。
    Depending on the individual players play environment the playing hours, class level will vary greatly, once players class levels and play hours spread out, just like the login restriction, we will be able to gradually releasing the character creation restriction.


    こちらも各ワールドの各エリア人口密度、クラスレベルなどを24時間モニターし、細かく制限と制限解除を繰り返している状況です。ログイン制限と異なり、各ワールドに作成されたキャラクタが大きく分散し始めるまで、ある程度時間を要しますが、こちらも徐々に制限は緩和されていきますので、ご理解とご協力のほどよろしくお願い致します。
    We are monitoring individual worlds population for each area, and class level 24 hours, and placing/removing restrictions as needed. Unlike login restrictions, character restrictions requires some more time until the players start spreading out, but this also will gradually be released so we hope for your undrestanding and support.


    ■ワールドの追加と負荷分散対策■
    Additional worlds and plans for load distribution


    サーバーとは高性能のパソコンであり、1ワールドは数十台のサーバーマシンによって構成されています。ワールドの追加を行おうとした場合、物理的にこのサーバーマシンを用意し、プログラムをインストール、かつ内部試験を行い、動作が確認され次第公開させていただくという流れとなっています。
    Servers are high end PC’s, and one world is made up of many of these server machines. When we add a new world, we need to physically prepare this server machine, install the program, and do internal checks, and it is released once it’s confirmed to be working correctly.


    オープンベータテストでは、どなたでもご参加可能なテストであったため、数値的な参考としては弱く、正式サービス前に実施させていただいたアーリーアクセスの結果を元に、サーバーの増強を判断し、アーリーアクセス中の8/25より大幅なワールド追加の準備を進めて参りました。
    Using the numbers from open beta test is not a good reference since in this test anyone could participate, therefore we used the results from the Early Access which happened before the official service start, the decision was made to increase the servers, and on 8/25, while Early Access was still going, we have started preparing large amount of worlds.


    現在サーバーマシンの準備はほぼ終わり、プログラムのインストール、および内部試験が行われています。このワールド追加により、全サービスに収容可能なプレイヤー数が大幅に増加可能となるため、ログインが非常に容易になります。
    Currently the server machine preparation is pretty much done, it is now going through the process of program installation and checks. With this world increase, it will make it possible to allow much more players, which should majorly ease the login.


    またこのワールドの追加作業と平行して、パーティマッチングシステムである、コンテンツファインダー管理サーバー、
    管理方法を根本的に最適化し、さらに大幅な負荷分散対策を作業中です。
    Also in parallel, we are currently working on optimizing the control method for the Duty Finder management server to greatly lower the stress amount.


    コンテンツファインダーは現在2つのデーターセンター内にある50ワールドをデーターセンターで2分割し、25ワールドずつのマッチングを行っていますが、今回のワールド追加によって、現在の処理許容量を越えることが測されるため、追加されるワールドを含めデーターセンター内のワールドを幾つかのグループに分け、グループ単位にマッチングすることで、全体の収容人数を大幅に引き上げが可能となります。
    There are currently 50 worlds and this is split into two data centers with 25 worlds. Currently the Duty Finder matches from these 25 worlds within the data center, but with the world increase it will go over the amount of process it can handle, for that reason we will be grouping some of the worlds within the data centers together, by doing this it will be possible to accommodate much more people.


    開発/運営チームはワールド追加、負荷分散対策という2つのタスクに全コストを集中しており、今のところこの週末から週明けには、この対応が完了する見込みとなっております。その後、最終的な部内試験を早急に実施し、一刻も早く、皆様により快適なサービスをお届けするため、全力で作業に当たっておりますので、今しばらくのご辛抱をお願い申し上げます。なお、この対応の実施日時が確定しましたら、改めてトピックス等でアナウンスさせていただきます。
    Development/Operation team is currently concentrating all costs in these two tasks, and right now we are looking into addressing this matter by end of this week, beginning of the week. Then later we will perform final tests quick to be able to deliver a smooth service to everyone. We are working in full, so we ask everyone to be patient for some more time. We will announce this through Topics once the data is confirmed.


    ■ゲーム内離席(AFK)キャラクタへの対応■
    Addressing AFK characters

    一部お客様よりワールド内にログインしたものの、ゲームをプレイせずに離席しているキャラクタを
    自動的にログアウトしていただく機能のリクエストを頂いております。
    こちらは実装の検討は行っているものの、現在は上記ワールド追加と負荷分散対策に全コスト集中し、
    根本的な対応を優先させていただいている状況です。こちらもあわせてご了承ください。
    We have been receiving requests to add a feature to automatically log out characters that login to the game but going AFK without playing.
    We are looking into implementation, but please understand that we are currently concentrating and prioritizing to resolve the stress and increasing above mentioned worlds.


    この状況を一刻も根本改善するため、開発/運営チームは全力で作業に当たっておりますので、
    これより数日間、引き続きのご協力、よろしくお願い致します。
    また、これら各種対応が完了したのち、数日間の無料期間延長など、サポート面の対応も検討させていただきます。
    この度は想定を上回るご好評をいだだきながら、プレイ時間等に制限がかかる結果となってしまい、
    お客様には多大なるご迷惑をおかけしております。まことに申し訳ございません。
