If only *Stareyed* <3 Hehe
You can and can't (XIII was very very detailed for example, as was most of their games on the respective systems at the time) MMOs for example can only go so far graphically before you begin sacrificing other things.. The purpose of a tech demo is to push and showcase hardware, hence why both were done at the consoles release.

I suppose you're right.
I just wish I wasn't teased with something beautiful that I can never actually experience. I'm bitter about it.

Ever played Assassin's Creed? You could literally tell what district of each town you were in just by the immediate environment. The wealthy district of say, Jerusalem would be lavish and have all kinds of visible luxeries for example, wereas the seedier side of the city would look like a bland, run down hellhole.
In regards to Ul'dah, it's possible that we are mostly seeing the poor/merchant quarter of the city. The wealthy district / homes of the syndicate are probably in the areas that we are unable to visit. (the 3rd floor of the central palace) On that note, there are sections of Limsa Lominsa and Gridania that cannot be entered yet as well, I'm hoping that will change as they add more content, probably when they implement the Grand Companies would be a safe bet.

Good Example: Vector from FFVI, nothing says bland like grim, dirty steel, rust-stained steel, and even more steel. It's funny how people tend to be like "get that realism out of my fantasy!" yet FF games were, while fantasy rpgs, tend to be realistic in the sense you can actually feel apart of the world. None of the FF games had bright rainbow puking unicorn cities, only a few of them had a city, side city or event place like golden saucer that was 'bright and vibrant', the rest were generally neutral colors.
That looks like Limsa and thankfully it was only a tech demo cuz Limsa looks better now.

Oh I disagree. This feels so much more open and interconnected. Detail that is delicate, but strong. A combination of industrial majesty and natural beauty.
Sorta what I would expect to happen if Limsa and the Eiffel Tower had a love baby.

*sigh* ... guess can't expect more from someone such as yourself lol
Anyways Let's hope that once Ishgard is open they get the city right and make it more "FF". Definately hoping for the return of homes or merchant shops at least... All those people sleeping in the streets of uldah are no good xD
