Apology from Yoshida Naoki, and translation for those needing it.

Make of it what you will; I have endured the errors and simply enjoy the game it is fleshing out thus far and am in for the long haul. For those literally not able to log in a single time, though at these hours minus the current maintenance, logging in has been easy if that's of any console, then I lament your loss and wish continued temperance if you seek it.

Apology shouldn't have been needed in the first place. They should have been prepared for this.

And before the fanboi force comes in and says "they had no way of being prepared!!!"...Bullshit, and you know it.

Agreed. Feels like they underestimated that the game would be so successful. But even if they did, Worlds with higher capacity could have been used as a precautionary measure for the launch. If the worlds didn't fill up in a few months, they could have simply merged the ones with low population.

It is by far one of the worst launches ever. For 2 reasons:

    1. They are not placing people in a queue(because if too many people enter the queue, it causes everything to blow up)

    2. They are limiting character creation on servers(sometimes ALL servers at once).

Those 2 things just scream amateur hour and "we don't know what we are doing".

So in that regard, this is one of the worst launches. And I've been around for most.

I am grateful for Yoshi San's courtesy and candor. We are very lucky to have the chance to play this remarkable game, and I am sure things will be sorted out soon. I have seen many many MMOs over the years and there is no reason to say that this team and this support is not good. They are actually achieving miracles daily and hundreds of thousands are playing. It is the overwhelming crush of people all trying to get in at once that is crashing the system, and there was no way on heaven or earth to expect the numbers to be so high. It is being addressed and dealt with, and patience will achieve miracles while bashing the staff and voicing anger will not even make us feel better for more than a few moments. Lets be considerate and courteous and fair. This is NOT the worst launch ever, in fact it is far far better than most. The translation is a bit off but the thought to share it was well meant.

The character limitation is reasonable considering how many people are trying to enter the game, there is no reason on earth for everyone to have all of the possible characters that they may end up with as you can only play one at a time.

It is the huge flow of people that is causing the problem, there is no way to deal with it other than to add servers and there is no game company on earth that will give a development team unlimited servers without seeing the need first. That is the way the head offices work and that is the facts of life. This appears to be one of the best MMOs yet created and many many people are seeing that and eager to come. Let's encourage that and stop the blaming and shaming. It does not help.

And here is Yoshi San's honourable and very candid apology in full: it bears repeating, for I have never seen its like before. He is a remarkable leader.

    This is crazy.
Before I say anything, let me first start by saying that these 3 days we had intended to use for early-access were interrupted by emergency maintenance, which resulted in PC players in North America and Europe that were really looking forward to this missing out on a lot of play time, and I would like to use this part of the presentation, which is being broadcast worldwide, to apologize for that right now. We are truly sorry.
We are about to set out on a very long journey together, and as such, I would really do hope that I can redeem myself for that mistake.
    Uhm...
    "Do your best!"
Uhm... It has been about 3 years since I inherited this FFXIV project. At first, well, I had never been that involved with the game, but I thought, "I can probably do something with this." And ultimately, since I really enjoy the FF series myself, I gathered the staff and we discussed the idea of re-making the game.
I remember it even now, it was December 1st and we were in a studio just like this, and the mixer room was just above me. And they were adjusting the mic that I was to use. That whole scene really left an impression on me. I was right there with the players thinking, "Can we really save this? This will be no small task."
One by one folks started giving us their support, even those people who firmly believed that it would take at least 4 to 5 years to create a solid MMORPG. We didn't waste a second and did our best not to rush the work and take our time during the planning process, we would say when handling the companies day-to-day affairs that our company is the tank. We stayed out in the front and we kept moving forward, and eventually came this far.
I can't even take credit for the creation of FFXIV:ARR. It really was thanks to the fans worldwide, our core staff here beside me, and the hundreds of other staff members who contributed but were unable to make it here tonight that we made it this far.
Honestly, I did not plan on crying here tonight, but for us, finally, FFXIV can start the first step of its true rebirth. This is no time to take a rest. We will keep focused on the next patch, the next expansion, and continue at full strength. And really, I'd like to address those FFXIV community members who I'm sure faced criticism from their friends about the fact that they stuck with FFXIV despite all its problems, to us, this 2.5, 3 years went by so quickly, but for the players it was such a long wait. Everyone at Square Enix can truly say that their hard work helped to repair any damage done to the Final Fantasy name. It is not a perfectly finished MMORPG, but we all arrived at this point together. We created this game together. We want to make this an unforgettable entry in the series that we all enjoy together and are still playing 5 years or even 10 years from now, and that all starts today.
    Thank you very much.
