Other than the issues we are having, the game is phenomenal. They truly out did themselves and innovated an amazing game.

Now with that said, the issues that we are having where apparent on Beta phase 4. I would of rather had them tell us they would delay launch and maybe give us an extra 30 days free or an in-game gift than try to put out a game that was not 80-90% playable. I always though they should have done that in version 1 but their way of thinking is different and I'm sure they had their reasons.

What I don't understand is the following. There is no way you can tell me they would have never known how popular the game was going to be. All they had to do was add up the numbers, data they would have in hand. Its actually a very easy calculation.

Number of people participating in beta + Number of people who preordered + Number of people from FFXIV version 1 = Close Estimation of people who would play the game.

Now get this. This is where it gets fun.

If (Estimation => Server Capacity) then (ALERT) we have a problem!!

What I can't figure out for the life of me is how they came up with 25 servers for Japan and 25 servers for the rest of the world.

Japan has a population of 127.8 million.

U.S.A alone has a population of 313.9 million!! This is not counting the rest of North America, Europe, Latin America and who ever else they consider 'the rest of the world'.

I'm kind of disappointed that this time around they segregated JP versus everyone else. This was one of the amazing things they accomplished in FFXI, not only did I learn a little bit of kanji but I also got to befriend some awesome JP players. Plus I wasn't working at the time so I played during non peek hours and it was great login in and seeing tons of people online.

I'm a huge fan and I know they will fix it, soon I hope. They truly are great game makers and I hope they are able to mend their reputation.
how do you know this is a capacity problem? Do you even know what hardware the servers are using and at what rated capacity? Before SE added new servers during the last half of p4 and through EA, they have been having server issues already that did not point towards issues with capacity, rather logic errors in user run times based on the error messages we got in DF and other instances.

Adding more servers wouldn't solve this 1017 problem, if it did, we would all be playing right now since SE can afford more servers. No this is a CODE issue, and adding more servers would only make the matter worse.

When SE said, " we are placing login restrictions to address server instability issues.." what do you think they ment? making the servers smaller? or placing a filter on the quantity of incoming user login requests?

Im willing to bet my server Diabolos is only running at 1/3 of the actual server capacity right now. And those who are getting 1017 errors are getting blocked by this filter before even accessing the request tunnel. Meaning the "SERVER FULL" is likely a defaulted false message when the client hits the filter.
