No harm in adding some DPS as long as:
    1. Wait until tank has agro on mobs
    2. Attack same target tank is attacking
    3. Watch out for big pulls or spike damage that will require your full healing
    4. Watch your MP
    5. Always get out of the red

Numbers 1, 2, and 5 go for everyone. I don't mind so much if the tank doesn't get out of the red because I'm going to be more focused on him/her anyway. If a DD is in there and has already taken damage? Good luck, buddy!

Folks, please mind your agro while doing so. Can't create a thread so I'm writing this here:

Overheal in this game creates ENMITY.

Had to take this out of my system when I ran copperbell mines and healer was healing me for 200+ with my health full while my savage blade was doing less than 50 damage (he was a few levels above me). Yes, that means that once a boss got loose, there was nothing I could do to take agro back even with my wildest combos there was no way I could steal agro from the healer.

While we're having a whinge; can I just say to non-healers... please remember to keep in my LINE OF SIGHT! I can't heal people I can't see, and if everyone's running off in different directions not only have I got no hope of healing you but I'm also standing stock still somewhere that'll probably be really *really* dangerous to my white-covered backside very soon too!

It's times like these that I actually feel pretty good about my healing. I'm not particularly good at it, but the game is pretty easy right now so it isn't very stressful. But knowing there are masses of people doing a worse job than me is, sadly, kind of uplifting. Ha!

My first run through Tam the other day I let our tank die because I pressed the wrong button (damn you huge GCD). There is a pull that has some high burst from some mage like mobs. The tank took some big damage right off the bat and I had to chain a couple of cures together to keep him up, but that pulled the attention of some of the group so they started firing off some Thunders on me. When I was down to about 150 and the tank at about half and not wanting to get the rest of the pack too angry, I decided he would probably live for 2.5 more seconds while I cure myself.

    Oops.

I ended up tanking the rest of the fight with Cure and Medica spam while the DPS took them down. Felt terrible.

Allso had a huge brainfart in that same run when I guess I clicked on the field (I haven't created mouse-over Cures yet, not sure if I will) and was trying to Cure the tank during a mini-boss fight. I started chain casting because I couldn't figure out why he wasn't getting topped off. Started thinking I was being outpaced but that just couldn't be. I then realized I didn't have him targeted when he was below 100 HP and running from the boss. He recovered well enough.

Maybe I should stick to tanking...

Wait I'm not suppose to spam stone and only heal using medica? Wow.

I know in OB, first Satasha run I did was full of dc's, but last healer I had, though new, was spectacular while me (ARC), a LNC and him 3-manned it til we all dc'd. The second time I ran Satasha our tank dc'd early on, so I got the ACN to summon Topaz Carby and we had our CNJ. That was the laziest healer I have ever partied with in an MMO. I, the Archer, who had equipped conjurer abilities, had to continually stop DD'ing, so I could heal Carby. He did let Carby die at one point while I was dealing with adds on a boss.

I realize there aren't many abilities for conjurer at low level, especially if you haven't leveled any other classes for their abilities. While I'm not new to MMOs, I am pretty new to healing, but the DD should not be healing and carrying the party. This is common gamer sense. I really hope I don't have many more experiences like the one above.

I was wanting to go Bard for support AND damage, but since that aspect has been greatly changed I may switch to a pure healing/support role. Those who are on my first dungeon runs will be my guinea pigs while I learn healing. I will try my best and hope I don't get too much abuse for my mistakes, heh. I have already healed on many low level FATES throughout phases 3 & 4 and EA, but I know dungeons are a whole other beast.

If anyone has any advice I would very much appreciate it. Thank you

When healer begin cast their heals or other personal buffs, you could see an arrow, like those which you see when agro mobs, but this ones painted white. So DPS actually see if healer healing em, otherwise it's their fault.
Didn't happened to me much to see people, who manage run off tho (during beta i were playing CNJ).

I can't imagine conjurers joining parties and not healing.
I had a tank and 2 DD's yesterday all get wiped out by standing in an exploding bomb, I was the only one who got out of the red circle... they all got one-shot.
Then the tank blamed me for not healing.
It goes both ways, people never perceive they did anything wrong.
Not saying that's what happened in the OP's case, but certainly there are a lot of people new to MMO's that could use some guidance.
At the end of the day, it's just a game, it's fun, and without failures the accomplishments wouldn't feel as good.

I feel that if someone sees a healer messing up, or not paying attention, or some other faulty-thing, then a polite message couldn't hurt. For instance, FFXIV is one of the few times I chose to heal over playing a DPS role and I know I'm not perfect at it (No deaths/wipes yet, but I spaced out once or twice and didn't notice our Arcanist getting attacked by random mob #4, coulda fixed his/her/hir's issues with some more heals tossed their way... but didn't notice until the flashy bar ran across my screen >.>) buuut, for times like that I wouldn't have been against a message that provided a tip for quickly swapping to other people/something. (like the F-keys, or where to re-bind them)

I dunno, I just feel doing that in the situation/moment would be the better idea. At least then you're helping someone become better at the game, and if you're paired with them again, they'll be a better healer that time through. :>
