I figured it out guys!!! The issue with 1.0 players not being able to register codes.

wrong, you could add EA code to 1.0 version, just not the full cd key for the game

I guess that the smartest move for 1.0 players would have been:

Pre-order ARR
Get EA code
Cancel pre-order
Enjoy

I guess this means I have to choose between my pre-order items and my CE items as my pre-order items have been added to my standard account...

Wow... another failure from SE. Seriously they have sent me so many emails about coming back and join the beta for the "new" game. And since i collect CE's of course i ordered a new copy. Lucky enough my CE is still on the way so i can send it back if i wont open. But this is something SE should have taken care of before by informing all the 1.0 players with an extra email.

Nope.
Hopefully they'll give us the option to.
Smart thing for Square would have been to put a notice on the product page or in the email you get when you pre-order. I know it was on the forums, but seriously, not everyone checks them.
For now, I guess we can only wait and see what they do. All of my friends have the game already so I'm stuck with the code. I'd like to use it or be issued a refund.
