Impressions of the PS3 version?

No complaints here with my PS3, running it at 720p (HDMI) with a clean crisp image, little to no lag (only see lag when in massive player populations) smooth control interface especially when switching hotbars. When compared to the desktop that I am using 2.8gh Dual Core 8Gb Ram, GForce 8400GS GPU I experience much more choppiness on the PC then I do on the PS3, more subject to Lag and the control interface isn't as smooth for going though hotbars.

No complaints about my PS3 experience with FFXIV.
If anything, this game runs far superior to any other online centric game I've played on PS3 (such as DCUO, WKC, and etc). Even in beta it was better.
SE really did a great job on the PS3 build of this game.

But still, I am looking forward to getting my PC built to run it

My main issue, like others have mentioned, is the targetting. This is my first console MMORPG and I bought the official Sony keypad that clips on to the controller. Been pleasantly surprised how well this has worked.

PS3 player discrimination is already happening in the chats around my server. I get a strange feeling PS3 Tanks/Healers are going to be shown the door in some raiding guilds.

But I gotta wonder, a large raid in a guild with one of those big bosses I saw on the trailer. Hopefully they've optimized that setting for console play. Maybe we can get some confirmation from other PS3 players that it plays well.

biggest complain for me and my 20 friends that came to preorder together is we cant voice chat.. but i mean its a good game just gonna have to try and stick thru it for a bit and hope they add it soon otherwise i doubt half of them will stay on the game more then a month =-/

Don't expect voice chat at all for this game to be built in on the PS3, I think I remember the producer saying they would never add voice chat in as they don't want to leave people feeling forced to use it. The PS4 however will allow party voice chat across games so you and your friends will be able to use that, I honestly don't know if the PS4 can do 20 people in one party chat session however.

Yeah, had a quite vocal PC player expressing his disgust of allowing PS3 players to play the game (and consoles in general).

IMO I love the PS3 version, even though it has some quirks... I feel like it has a consistent framerate and I don't ever get graphics lag or anything. The only lag I get is then the server lags information, but I get that on my PC too. My PC is running 14 on max settings fluidly. I have to admit that 1080p is crisp and controller play with the ps3 controller on the pc is just as comfy as ps3. But when connecting the 1080p settings to a huge tv... txt becomes hard to read from the distance I play at, so I normally switch to 720p which scales the UI to the exact specs as the PS3 version. Only thing that is better is the graphics rendering. I was going to buy a PC version too, but I'll just wait for the PS4 version.

Controls are perfect for an MMO setup on a controller... PS3 players can even play with mouse and keyboard if they want.

I think people hating on ps3 players dont realize that it's probably not the fact that they are playing on a console/controller that is making them suck... but the fact that this game brings a whole new set of players to the table... there are many people that have never played an mmo because they were all PC based games and they didn't have a gaming rig... this game gives them a chance to play a good mmorpg along with pc players. GIVE IT TIME. I don't suck with the controller so just let people get use to it.

What do you guys think of the PS3 version of this game?

I'm personally having a hard time getting used to it. It's actually hurting my eyes a little bit. The resolution is a bit blurry, the text seems to clip off the bottom and top of my TV screen and I can't find an option to fix that. The framerate is really wonky as I suspect it's hitting the teens fairly often. Top it off, people animate like a slideshow and pop into view within five feet of my character. There was also one story scene where I was fighting a monster and because so many minions popped in my PS3 would momentarily stutter.

How much do you guys think this is attributed to high server loads, and how much is it that PS3 just wasn't meant to be playing MMO's?

Or maybe it's running good for you all and I need to find a way to put a GTX670 in it

Sounds like either server lag or your connection...mine runs and looks great (other than when i have obvious server lag or bug issues)

Yeah this happened to me recently. I targeted the wrong enemy, then I used the D-pad to switch targets to think I was fixing the issue, but it would only target it for one move and then switch back to the incorrect target.

What you have to do when you incorrectly target is hit circle to remove the target entirely and then point in the direction of the enemy you want and hit X again to target.

after you swap targets you have to press X to confirm it.
