This is what I got when I asked them this question.

Please note your old version of the game has been automatically upgrated to Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.

As your beta code is currently linked to your Final Fantasy XIV 1.0 (which is now Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn) your Beta Licence character will remain with this service.

If you wish to continue with this account you can add the bonus item included in your collector edition 2.0 then add them in your existing service account.

You can also create a new service using your game code Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn collector edition 2.0 however your Beta Licence character will not be transfered to this service as it is currently linked to your existing Final Fantasy XIV 1.0 (which is now Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn)

does this mean the code can be used to either add items or create a new account?

why don't they talk about currently active accounts VS new accounts instead of all this "V1.0(now renamed realm reborn)" ...

so confusing.
