There is no fee for posting, when sold 5%(I'm not 100% sure on that amount) is deducted from what you earned (Note: the buyer also pays a fee too, but that doesn't affect the amount you receive). I believe auctions are listed for 7 days (They're buyout only, there's no reason to list them for shorter times), the timer is refreshed anytime you summon then dismiss your retainer.

You unlock retainers from doing the story quest, and you get the ability to "hire" 2 (the current maximum) for no actual cost.

Got a source for that claim? That wasn't my experience during P4, but I didn't closely inspect my earnings.

Well, no source, I just read through all the retainer questions that the retainer creator lady offers, you can also ask her to tell you what each city's tax rates are.
