Yes the bonus items WILL appear on your characters...and they will show up right away. Same for the bonus items for getting 30, 60 and 90 days subscriptions these items will appear right away too. Nice policy of Square Enix and Yoshi.

I am excited for the 30, 60, and 90 day subscription bonus items. I'm also gonna get the CE bonus items too when the game launches on Tuesday. I didn't pre-order it because I wanted the physical game.

Collector's Edition items (except Onion Helm from 1.0) will not be delivered via Moogle Letter until Aug 27.
Preorder Bonus items (Moogle Cap + Cait Sith Doll) will not be delivered via Moogle Letter until Aug 27.
Veteran's Reward items will not be delivered via Moogle Letter until after Sept 10 due to the fact that nobody gets charged to play until Sept 10*.
You can redeem each item 1 time on your character.
*Version 1.0 Owners get 14 days free. This brings them from Aug 27 to Sept 9.
*Version 2.0 Owners get 30 days free. This brings them from Aug 27 to Sept 26.
*1.0 and 2.0 Owners get 44 days free. This brings them from Aug 27 to Oct 9.

For the 30, 60 and 90 days subscriptions bonus's, how does this work as you get 30 days subscription with the game, so do you get the bonus item for the 30 days staight away? or is it to do with timecards/credit card?

It's probably for time purchased with Time Cards / Credit Cards / Crysta, and not for 'promotional time'.
Some info about Veterans Rewards can be found here:

I think you mistyped the 2.0 date, it should be Sept 26.
Johnist and Khalus are correct both actually. If you currently have the 1.0 on your account (PC version ofcourse, theres no PS3 1.0), then you are NOT able to register the PC version of ARR to your account. You are still able to use your preorder code for PC, to start playing for Early Access, but you cannot add the PC ARR key to your account to be credited for 30 days of service.
If you instead bought the PS3 version (which some people did for this exact reason), then you ARE able to redeem the Preorder key for whichever platform you prefer (PS3 or PC) then later when you receive the game add it to your service account and receive 30 days free. This is the ONLY way to get 30 days free with ARR if you already have 1.0 on your account.
