I wanna play Tera so bad... but I trying to hold off for this game. The battle system is completely real time. How is that a Wow clone? O.o
My friend (who was at FF14 from launch, is an ardent defender of it, has multiple rank 50 jobs) who tried the Korean version of Tera says that the battle system is so fun that you actually want to grind.
Yes they are, but there is grinding, and then there is RIDICULOUS grinding. Grinding 90k SP is different from grinding 5million SP is it not? the bigger number = ridiculous. I am sure you would hate this game to hell if it took 5mil SP to get from 49-50
But who knows, maybe Tera finally broke that chain of stupidity...

Tera has a real time battle system, its hard to explain but its far far far away from being a WoW clone, sure the UI looks similar but its just what people find comfortable to use and is intuitive, I mean FFXIV's UI is the complete opposite its very minimal and clunky as hell.Looking at the UI...... Wow clone AGAIN?! Everythings in the same damn place too. The battle looks nice and all, but games with developers who cant make their own stuff up dont deserve no props. Tho it isnt nearly as bad as what Rift did.. And a bunny tank is pretty cute.. and it doesnt look like it has auto attack either >.>.
Now I kind of like FF14 but the chances of me leaving when Tera comes out or I get into the beta is highly likely, SE need to get their act together.
The NA/EU version of Tera is being heavily westernised, don't expect to see ridiculous grinds in this game even if the Korean version does.

And when is it that Tera is being released NA/EU?
Which is kind of stupid. The two different versions, if not developed independently, will come to a situation where the Korean version and Western version do not match. The Korean version is balanced with more grind in mind, and if the Western version is simply a less grindy version of it- well, I'm not sure whether the Korean devs will give a shit to adjust.
Not to mention Frogster publishing the game in EU. God, why do they hate us?
It's kind of sad, since while the game looks generic it is polished and is pretty much as good as a game from Korea can get.
Supposedly 2011. They just did a community play event recently, but they're not in open beta. There's no NDA on it, so there's a lot of information out there for it.
I dunno. I'll definitely play Tera, if just to get more action into my MMO life, and because I like the look and feel of it, but I'll be sticking around FFXIV as well. Tera promotes itself as 'skill based' where really it's just utilizing a different set of skills.
Hopefully, FFXIV gets a lot more strategic, then I'll keep it around for when I want to actually think, and play Tera when I want to chop things to little bits with an oversized sword.
Sigh...all this discussion of other MMOs makes me long for the good old days of playing an MMO because I actually felt I had something to look forward to from playing it.
I want to want to play XIV, but it just doesn't give me that "Gotta play it!" feeling...
Not yet anyways.

I feel ya, Dick.
I actually like the game, but for reasons other than playing it. I'm a bit of a graphics snob, now, so the game really appeals to me aesthetically. And I RP and found myself a brilliant linkshell. So, I make my own fun and just use FFXIV as the medium for it. Kind of stupid that I have to make up my own reasons to play, but it is what it is until FFXIV gets back on track. Or finds the track, for that matter.
I played for less than a month when the game first came out, 'cause no one spoke outside of linkshells, I wasn't sure what I was doing, everything was stupidly complicated, took too long, and I never found a good linkshell to hang out in.
Liking it a lot better, now, but hopefully it'll just keep getting better.
Tera and those other games are still many months til release. FFXIV will most likely be a lot better by then. They already have a lot planned for it in the coming months.
The difference is we can at least still play it, for free even. Other companies would have just shut it down while they work on it, then there would be only new beta testers probably.
