I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.
If XIV shares the same lore stand on male miqotes as did XI on mithras, then I'd say it should be regulated in some way or another...
also, currently there is no reason to have more than one character other than aesthetics since there is no stats difference and jobs can be changed whenever. Honestly, I'd level my char again and level the same jobs again, and get the same nm drops again, and get fairly pissed.
On that note, it'd be nice if SE would let us mail our equipment to alternate characters. rare ex equip I mean.

But it doesn't, they're vaguely related only in some slight appearance similarities. They're not actually related in any way shape or form.
Honestly I can really see them putting in an option to allow us to change race/gender, probably with $/crysta. SE has warmed up to the micro-transaction scene and I think even they realize they could make a quick buck off of this. And I'd honestly be completely okay with that, anything to have to avoid re-rolling my character. Not giving us such an option would be incredibly unfair to all the loyal players who kept the game alive before PS3 launch.
Chances are to be fair if they did release the new race genders that they would let people of the respective gender switch for free (probably for a 1 time only thing). That would be my guess. Same could be said for when they add new hairstyles and the like to the already existing races.
I think it would be unfair to limit it only to the already present genders for the missing genders and it should just be something that they give everyone.

That would be far from optimal, considering that many chose another *race* given that they couldn't play the *gender* they wanted. There are a lot of people that chose gender before race (for instance, I'd never play a female character). So, for instance, many of those that would have liked to play a female highlander, in the end played a female midlander (or some other race), because they wanted to be female in game. With your solution those people would be screwed over.Chances are to be fair if they did release the new race genders that they would let people of the respective gender switch for free (probably for a 1 time only thing). It is no different than when new class comes out, you will have a mass influx of that class for a set amount of time until it dies down. Most people aren't going to delete their main for a male cat/female galka and even if they make an alt to play it, I honestly doubt they will dedicate all their time to leveling something from scratch when other new content will be out there for them to play.
No they won't. People have said the same thing in every other MMO when a "cool new race" gets released.
The truth of the matter is this:
- Just because we like Male Miqo'te, doesn't mean everyone does. Quite a few people just won't care. In fact, quite a few people don't like the idea of them at all.
- Most people aren't going to start a new character to play as them, even if they like the race.
- A lot of people who support this idea don't even want to play as them, they just like seeing the added variety to the game. (Something the game desperately needs more of.)
- There's no advantage to being one, it's purely aesthetics.
You will probably see a lot of them when they're unveiled, sure. But not everyone - not even most people - will play as one.
