I'm going to start in Thancred.
Um, I mean Uldah! I'm going to start in Uldah.
edit: As for what class... eh, haven't decided yet.

I started 1.0 as a CNJ, since I liked having elemental dmg spells. Then they made CNJ go WHM and I switched to being a full BLM instead. There is, however, no way in Hell that I'm starting in Ul'dah. Going back to CNJ and Gridania. First, I will sort out my retainers/armoire/inventory and I imagine that will take me at least 2 days or so >.> and then I can start "getting rid of" whatever quests I have on CNJ so I can rejoin the Twin Adders, while exploring Eorzea and trying to find a quiet spot among the hordes of people that will flock to Excalibur in the initial Phase 4 rush.

Also just before phase 4 ends I intend to explore and re-obtain all the aetherytes.

I started 1.0 in Gridania, and I'll start ARR in Gridania as well. However, unlike last time, I will not be starting as a Pugilist. I am kind of torn as to which native Gridanian class to begin as, and that is due to my first big goal is to gain access to Arcanist.
My current plan is to start as either a Lancer or Archer, and do a few class quests so that I can unlock the Hunter's log and Armory system. I will also likely advance in the main story arc until I unlock leves, the inn room, and the airship. I will then go to Limsa and unlock Arcanist, at which point, I will likely level it until 16~17 or so and resume the main story arc. Depending on how Arcanist plays, I should be able to decide by then if I want to advance in the main story with it or not.
If Arcanist is not available during phase 4, I will likely play around with setting up my cross hotbars for all of my DoW and DoM classes, do the main story quest to gain access to different utilities, and perhaps work on different DoH or DoL classes that I do not have at 50, or phase 4's cap yet. Leaning towards DoL so that I can obtain material to work with as the leves for DoH no longer provide you with the material needed. I'm particularly curious about Fisher, as that class has been surprisingly absent from the beta thus far.

I Lucke'd out (see what I did thar...). My main class/job is GLA/PLD which starts in UD which was where I started in 1.0. Also a max Flamer, so it all works out.
EDIT: For those wondering if you can get crafter EXP for doing main quests...I tested this in P3. You CANNOT. If you do a quest then switch to a craft, you can't turn it in. The icon above the NPC's head turns red until you change back to DoW/M.
Of course, that might change in P4 but I doubt it.

I didn't think it would work, and I forgot about those red/locked NPCs. I remember in 1.0 I would try it just between DoL/DoH. If I had a Cooking Leve and turned it in on Armorer, I would get the EXP but it would go on Cooking, and not the class I was actually on. Tested it many times, just because whatever I was leveling, I didn't really care which got the EXP.I Lucke'd out (see what I did thar...). oh thx for confirming it... I thought I was crazy. I was trying to say it earlier but I doubted myself about it. Then, I editted the comment out of my post XDEDIT: For those wondering if you can get crafter EXP for doing main quests...I tested this in P3. You CANNOT. Pretty much my plan here. But I think i'll skip on the DoL/DoH class quests. Still not sure.I will be beginning in Gridania. My plan is as follows:
- Start as Archer. Get through the first two or three quests in order to escape instanced content.
- Visit my retainers and the calamity salvanger. Sort out my gear and setup my skill bars on all classes (not yet jobs). Buy a bottle of orange juice.
- Visit Archer's guild and complete class quests up to Level 30 to unlock skills. Do the same for Conjurer and Lancer.
- Get as far as I can on the Leatherworker, Botanist and Carpenter class quests (I will hit a roadblock with the materia-relevant quest, but no rush).
- Walk to Thanalan, tagging aetherytes along the way.
- Visit Mutamix Bubblypots and unlock any sealed Materia-content.
- Continue to Ul'dah. Do class quests for Pugulist, Gladiator and Thaumaturge. Again, get as far as I can on Miner, Alchemist, Goldsmith and Weaver.
- Walk to Vesper Bay, tagging aetherytes along the way. Give the orange juice to the not-really-colour-coorindated quest NPC and unlock gear dying.
- Catch the Ferry to Limsa Lominsa (regardless of the expense). Get as far as I can on class quests for Marauder, Fisher, Blacksmith, Armourer and Culinarian.
- Purchase a Weathered Grimoire and unlock Arcanist. Do the first class quest to make sure the hunting log is working.
- Buy some dyes. Get colour-coordinated.
- Teleport back to Gridania. Start the main scenario quests and Gridanian sidequests playing as arcanist (by now, the low level areas should not be swarming with players).
- After catching the airship to Limsa, complete the Arcanist quests up to level 15.
- Run Sastasha, the Tam-Tara Deepcroft and the Copperbell Mines. Continue to follow the main scenario, defeat Ifrit and rejoin the Order of the Twin Adder.
- At my leisure, complete the sidequests up to level 15 in La Noscea and put the experience on Culinarian (currently level 2).
- At my leisure, complete the sidequests up to level 15 in Thanalan and put the experience on Weaver (currently level 2).
- Go nuts with whatever, including job-related content.
Upon reaching levels 27 and 33 I will need to make a decision about continuing the main scenario as an Arcanist, or swapping to marauder or lancer respectively, because these are my current levels on those non-50 classes and I'll need to pick my priority class.
Yeah main quests it doesn't work for. It works fine on sidequests though. Switching off DoW/DoM to turn in the quest that is.I Lucke'd out (see what I did thar...). My main class/job is GLA/PLD which starts in UD which was where I started in 1.0. Also a max Flamer, so it all works out.

I am still a little undecided about the hunting log. While I should probably leave them un completed for my r50 classes to save exp for possible level cap increase if there are achievements for completing the logs I may end up doing them. Same thing with the bonus exp for crafting/finding items on crafting and gathering log
