To answer you question, you don't keep anything. The only items that show up on all newly-created characters are the bonus items that register to your account via a code, like the Onion Helm.
Ah, so they might open up transfers again at some point? I can deal with that. I might even like staying on Masamune. And that's a bummer about the items but it makes sense. Thanks for the info!
