I'm no economist, but honestly it's not like there won't be max level people with max level crafting jobs within the first week anyhow. It just seems like a silly limitation to put in place, especially since half the legacy players are all but forced to migrate to the other half to be in the proper region.

Mostly I'd just like to hear from the devs about what sort of space is being allotted for NEW players on legacy worlds. If they are already full on transfers for a few worlds, it seems like a legitimate concern.

Would you have liked it better if SE had doubled our gil, along with doubling all prices, fees and reward amounts?

SE reps posted that SE would open up transfers for legacy characters to new worlds once economies stabilized. They said "months" after launch, and several of us got the impression that they meant maybe 3-6. They didn't specify "paid" or not.

More recently I'm wondering if SE might open up character transfers (legacy world → legacy world, new world → anywhere) earlier than that. It could be a "the first one is free" basis, unless they did something like create a new targeted world for some subgroup and open a special free transfer program for it. (I'm just speculating--SE hasn't said anything about this.)

Have hope. More helpful people are heading to Sargatanas. Maybe some of these sour apples will transfer off. Oh, and GMs are scheduled to become active starting in Phase 4.

Oh I'm hoping for it alright lol, I just can't help but slightly worry that Legacy servers are going to be pretty dead compared to new servers strictly because new players are misinformed on what a Legacy server is really like. Just wish people wouldn't discourage new players from joining just because it annoys them they are asking questions in /shout or trolling them on the beta forums fueling the flames by telling them we're better then them and crap like that.

I mean, just don't say anything lol is that so hard? Why ppl feel the need to act like an a**hat is beyond me
But yes I really hope it's not like that at launch..

Thanks for the info! It would be pretty awesome if Square could open up a specialized RP server, then offer free transfers. Your idea of "first one is free" is a great one, but how much could they charge afterwards? I'm thinking a small fee. Square will make a large income already from box sales and the subscriptions of the 1.0 players, let alone the mass of new players who were waiting for Realm Reborn since its initial announcement. What do you think?

Im on the fence about this too, as i didnt really care for the server im on, yet i cant bring my character to a new server. So in the end, i have to make all my friends come to Hyperion. Hopefully its a condition that lasts about a month or two tops, before they introduce a type of server transfer program, which should also be free and have a month or two cooldown, keeping with other modern mmos. the biggest issue is the lack of legacy servers allowing only so many new players to join without overloading it.... guess we will see!

I think others charge €20/$25 per character. Maybe they could also do a "cooldown" like FoxyBrown mentions. The idea is to discourage frequent transfer requests, as well as pay for staff time to process the requests.

You are taking your longest supporters, and making it more difficult and uncertain that they will be able to get friends new to the game to PLAY WITH THEM on the same servers. I will be pretty upset if any of the 5 or 6 people I've talked into picking up the game can't get on my server.
People keep thinking it's a nerfed in gil when it's not. About all NPC sell/buy price where also lower down to 10%. Which mean if you had 80m in 1.0 that would be 8m in 2.0 it still have the same buying value. The only issue now is people who think it's a nerfed would try to sell item for the same cost of 1.0. Like X2 meld Wep for 20m when it should be 2m but i guess i'll be waiting few weeks before buying anything anyways lol.

And like others said new players can join legacy worlds. Some people just want to play from start and seeing how this is a new release of FFXIV it's pretty much a new game for many new players they don't want to be with 50+s unless they have friends or don't care about it.

Because we're too awesome for newbies to handle.

I kid, I kid. Actually my shell has a few brand new players who didn't play during 1.0 at all and are coming with us to our legacy server despite not originally playing before.

The thing about YoshiP is that he doesn't like the idea of people being separated or feeling disadvantaged. I realize the former point in that seems like a contradiction in this regard, but I believe his hope with duty finder is that it will absolve that point completely. The disadvantage point comes with brand new players trying to make a niche for themselves on already established worlds/economies. It's basically the same thing NA players went through in XI when they finally made NA support live, we were playing with the Japanese player base that was already established for a year prior. Granted, from my memory it wasn't a big deal. We caught up with them in terms of money within a few months, though I also know a lot of people took advantage of the JP player's kindness, before the tensions got high.

And before anyone says anything about the economy not mattering because of the gil reduction. It wasn't a reduction, it was a digit removal. The gil is the same, the value overall was altered. (an item that cost 100 gil in 1.0 costs 10gil now, per world market, not player choice). Players can and likely will still price their items for the first few months at ridiculous prices based on what their used too, not taking into consideration the difference in gil actually being held by players. I suspect that will only last for six months or so before it starts to level out again when things sit in retainers for weeks without being sold. But still, new players without any previously held gil will be at a disadvantage to these players because they wont be able to compare.

There's a lot of 'what ifs' in this type of thing. But in the end it's all about not making new players feel overwhelmed by pre-established player bases, because not all 1.0 players will be forth coming with aid, gear crafts and general assistance. They'd rather stick to their friends already established, bring in a few select friends from outside the game to their own world and keep it like that.

Granted; my shell isn't one of those and I dont speak for everyone, but I (and you) know that type of mentality exists. Always does, always will.

I mean I understand why they did it this way but then there's times like in beta I see how people were treating new people in shout who were asking questions on Sargatanas, and they either weren't answering or some were just being douches. And that kinda annoyed me, most of us want new players to come to our servers and we'll help anyway we can (I know I try to answer questions when I see them), but its THOSE kind of ppl that drive those new players away & end up making them think we are all Elitist jerks on Legacy.

So kinda makes me sad that I get lumped into that category, I would transfer if I could but more then likely its Sargatanas for life cause I don't want to pay to transfer later and what not.
I see the opposite (obv I see what you're saying too, because it does exist) there are many non-legacy (or just 1.0) people that come from other MMO's with the elitest attitude of "I know everything and you don't". On the whole I think most 1.0 players really want the game to succeed and help others, and not be a total tool

My hatred for this issue got me banned from the beta forums yesterday. =/ But yeah, I'm not sure why so many people are terrified of Legacy players. I'm loving helping them in the doody finder.
