    Moor·ish (adj.)
    1. Of or relating to the Moors or their culture.
    2. Of, relating to, or being a style of Spanish architecture of the 8th to the 16th century, characterized by the horseshoe arch and ornate decoration.

Wuthering Heights was set in the Yorkshire Moors, but as far as I can remember was written in very good English (it's been 20 years, so forgive me). I guess there might have been some Yorkshire dialect..?

The Canterbury Tales on the other hand, I remember having to translate from Middle English into something I understood before I could make sense of them. I hated the chore of that, but then I didn't become a translator as my career, so I can see why a certain someone may want to pay homage to them!

yeah wuthering heights had yorkshire in it i remember speaking to my english teacher because the whole class couldn't understand that character at all and she said it was moorish dialect (pertaining to the yorkshire moors or baroque i think it's calls as well but heavier) Also it was a lot harder to understand than say the Secret Garden's dialect for certain characters. I understand it now though after having to read Wuthering Heights.

hmmm I'll have to try to read those cause my interest has been piqued.

Your English teacher is as mad as a fish.

Yorkshire dialect = north of England (Sean Bean as Boromir or Ned Stark). Found in Wuthering Heights/The Secret Garden.

Moorish dialect = well... The Moors were medieval Muslims from North Africa who conquered much of southern Europe 1300 years ago. To say something is 'Moorish' means you are pertaining to their culture. They influenced the Basque (now a region of France and Spain) language heavily, so if there was a 'Moorish dialect' of anything it would be of Basque (does sound a bit like 'Baroque', admittedly ).

    Nothing Moorish in Wuthering Heights!

I guess I was lucky in that I was familiar enough with Yorkshire that I didn't notice it in Wuthering Heights or The Secret Garden! lol

    I think I'm off-topic, sorry!

Fair enough. Some people care about knowing things right, some don't. I'm one of the former and there might be other folk reading who are grateful for the knowledge. From the 0 likes on my post, I think most people here, like you, probably don't care though!

Depends if you take mad as an insult. A lot of folk just take it as a way of life. And yes Hesty, you too are mad as a fish.

It is always wonderful to learn. I enjoy reading your posts. I also wholeheartedly support sharing one's knowledge with others. Be that as it may, I didn't click like on your posts because I felt said posts were impolite towards Mister Rannie. I think that is why Mister Rannie said, "I don't care". I am sure you meant all the best, though, M-J-O ol' pal.

Hey, now, I am a mad hatter, and proud of it, but these fish relatives of mine told me to send words downstream your way. I apologize in advance for any threatening (and quite possibly slimy) messages written on your walls. I also apologize for the crawdad in your toilet. He's like a hitman but of the sea.

Ah, well Rannie, no offense intended at all to you. Maybe some toward your English teacher's knowledge of English. I blame Abriael anyhow. Thankfully I have my Hestern Moral Compass TM on hand to see me straight.

    "as a fish"

    ---

    Something about a lore book/library in-game, out-of-game and in my lady's chambers.

I like the FFXIII datalog - something a bit more fantasy-y for FFXIV though? Or maybe the HGttG, as so much is pulled from other literary sources. Though I guess it would be "The Adventurer's Guide to Hydaelyn" Hmm...
