HYD (AELY) N Seek - Community Event!

Get it? HYD (AELY) N Seek? Hide-aely-N Seek? Hide-N-Seek? He he he....he he he...oh ho ho ho ho...nya ha ha ha ha...I am so funny...um...right...where were we?

HYD N Seek is a community event inspired from my days on FFXI, but also encouraged along by Denmo's very own successful community event. I really think we should make community events a constantly occurring thing -- even within the beta itself-- "the more impractical the better".

In this community event we will be playing something akin to Hide-and-Seek. This event will take a lot of honesty from my fellow players, but being me, I believe all of you will keep to your word! Huzzah!

In FFXI, I used to gather a group of players around to host a Hide-and-Seek game. It always turned out to be really fun, and we used some form of communicative means to keep everyone apprised of the goings on during the game.

In this rendition, we will create one to two linkshells (depending on number of participants) where the seeker(s) can taunt and generally be all seeker-ly toward his HYDing fellows.

For every ten players, we will choose another seeker to help find them (unless the number of participating players is below 20; anything below 20 participants will only have one seeker). Each seeker, therefore, would need to find one player to replace them in the next round (the number of rounds will be determined by INTEREST).

Each HYDer will pick a hiding spot within the previously announced zones and stay there until the seeker(s) sends word via LS that he/she/they have found someone. Each HYDer will want to try to dress in such a way as to blend in with the environment around them, specifically with other NPCs. When played within a city, each HYDer would be emulating the mannerisms of an NPC, dissolving all PC characteristics to avoid detection (For the best results, you'll want to make sure the character you create for the event is adequately nondescript) ((It is important to note that this is not wholly necessary, just recommended stuff)).

All seekers must choose the option to turn off names on their screen. This way, finding HYDing players will be more challenging. Cheaters are meanie-faces who deserve to be run over by a mob of lalafells led by Denmo. Please do not cheat! I know none of you would do such a thing anyway, but it must be said, regardless.

All seriousness aside, this event will be allowed to spiral out of control, and into ridiculousness, hilarity, and the like, for the sake of FUN. As a community event, I'd prefer it if we didn't take this so seriously that it doesn't become enjoyable anymore. ^_^ I just thought we could try adding other events into the mix, you know? If it doesn't work out, then obviously we should all start dancing and causing server overloads and the like, as a remedy for boredom!

Event Placement: Inside Limsa Lominsa (Meet at Adventurer's Guild)
Time: Friday, 28 of June, 3 PM PDT (Use the Time Zone Converter!)
    World: Gilgamesh
    Cake: Optional
Advice?: Create a character on Gilgamesh early enough to be able to acquire inconspicuous gear!

    Things to Consider:
    1) It would be beneficial to be able to mark the current seeker somehow. Say, taking out a mammet minion, or wearing a level 1 mask. I know that the minions would have to be paid for, but I have to wonder if the masks I have in my inventory can at all be traded, as that would make for a good marker as well. We don't need such a thing, it's just a thought.
    2) How will the seeker confirm that they've found a HYDer? My suggestion would be by sending an LS message "I found you...I think...whoever you are...um, are you a pc? Character standing at <position> in <zone>? Has <description>? I eatz you."

    Concerns:
    1) Potential for Ennui?
    2) Organizational Viability?
    3) More Cake?
    4) Banner Please?

Also, I'd love help getting the word out, presuming anyone wants to join me in this extravaganza! I really am not good at navigating social networking sites for the benefit of advertisement. ^_^

When do you work, Mr. Spy?

At this point, I am not set upon the time. It was just a timeslot I threw out!

Sadly, my work schedule isn't very kind to beta. So honestly, it wouldn't matter much what time you set it, heh I only get to participate in beta for about 2 hours a day. But once the game is up for the full week, I'm sure I can participate a lot more in events that occur during the week.

Besides, changing the time for one person is very nice, but unethical (Though, I don't think that's quite the word I'm trying to use here...) However, whatever time it may be, I'm sure you'll have plenty of participants! I know my ls was gun-ho about being in the lalafel march! And I had created a thread asking the ls mates to discuss what kind of events we shall be holding ourselves, and hide and seek was one of them

Other than you, there have been no responses to this thread, so I am not sure who else is coming at the moment. This is why I considered changing the time for you. He he. ^_^ It wasn't meant to forgo thought of anyone else, 'cause there currently is no one else ha ha. I shall have to make more of an effort to get the word out! I need a banner! And cake! More cake, people, more cake!

Thank you for the support. If you don't mind, I'd be overjoyed if you let your LS know about this event, since they were interested in this sort of thing!

Sounds fun. I thought about this during the beta, actually. But sadly I'm not on your server... Also, there should be some rule about not hiding in things where they're literally totally concealed. Any character can easily 100% conceal themselves within certain hay bales in LL. I, even mounted on my chocobo, was able to be completely hidden within them. I'm not sure whether or not there are other places where you can make yourself literally impossible to see.

Oki dokies. A couple of things my little Hestern.

I have a feeling you will face difficulties because
    1. requiring people to turn off ui is not practical.
    2. requiring them to lvl/make gil to buy gear to attempt to blend in.
    3. if you were to have a large turn out, there would be an issue of everyone being able to see each other to even seek them in the first place.
    4. keeping track of an activity like this with a lot of people will prove rather chaotic

vs. last weeks lalafell march event. 'show up' 'follow me' '???' 'profit' ...there was a lot of ??? XD

Now I understand what you are trying to do, because I have hosted similar events in XI and XIV... but I had a great tool as a marker in the LS. For example if you were 'it' you just turned off your LS pearl symbol. Easy as pie! But you no longer have this convenience.

I would make recommendations to you.
'Naked race' (either by survival in aggro mob areas or through towns)
'Heckle mob' (You say in LS chat 'poke Yoshi P!' then the mob surrounds the player and /poke emotions them for about 30 seconds before you pick a new target and new emote)
'Beach party' (Show up in Costa Del Sol for screenshots and frolicking fun)

These are things I considered doing myself... but you posted first XD

*sniffle* I was trying to encourage all of us to think of ways of continuing to bring the community together like Denmo did last week. I like to be inclusive of as much people as I can humanly muster and I sincerely meant to do that with my community event here *sniffle sniffle*. I was just thinking good thoughts with this. I am not entirely sure how it became something negative to other people.

I've been told many times in my life that I am impractical. I like that about me. It is a fairly innocent flaw that has never caused any harm to anyone.

I have a few ideas about how to remedy your list of possible complications, but I think the easiest solution would be to /y or /sh in Limsa Lominsa around 3 PM and see if any local players there want to join in on an innocent game of HYD N Seek. That takes care of most of the issues right there. I know that there is an option in the menu to turn off the names and only the names above player's heads, so it wouldn't require the deactivation of the entire UI. ^_^ How about that? Then I can have fun with at least a small (very small, ha ha) subsection of the community and no one has to be sad or confused at all! Yay!!!!!

As for what to turn this into instead, I really like your ideas, but I have a few questions:

    1) Could we be banned or reprimanded in anyway for heckling others with our heckle game? Is there potential for others to view it as a negative thing and become upset? I liked this idea of yours the best.
    2) Would anyone be interested in a game of TAG instead, where each person who is tagged joins the original tagger in chasing everyone else down and across the map (I can expand the zones to include La Noscea, if so!)? My only concern would be: Would latency make it so that it would be hard to tell on both player's screen whether or not someone was tagged? We could fix that easily by instating a "has to be seen on both player's screens" rule? Does that sound fun?

I've been kind of bummed thinking everyone disliked me for some reason or that I said something rude maybe or did something rude and that was why there were 300 views and only a few responses. I was really trying to do something fun for everyone. And I was hoping that if I showed that everyone could do it, that more players would fly out of the aether to come up with their own community things, and we'd create this great expanse of events that happened every week for everyone to participate in, and we'd all live happily in Eorzea, sipping lemonade and petting miqo'tes...lol...I'm a bit of a dreamer. And Impractical. Always impractical. I like that about me. It keeps me hoping and wishing for the best. Tee hee.

I am a rather sensitive lala-being, so it might seem a tad silly for me to even have thought the things above. He he.

Thank you, as always, for trying to help Nique! I hope I haven't offended you in any way, my darling!! *hugs*

I shall await eagerly your next response, so that we can figure out some way to effectively bring the community together. Huzzah!
