Sooooo...what do you guys think about the story shown so far?

- Great intro cutscene.
- Seems like there's some ties to the 1.0 story, but looks like most of it is nixed. Lolorito is still a pretty big influence in Ul'dah's story.
- The Echo still exists and is relevant to the story.
- References to past FFs

Biggs, Wedge, Tiny Bronco

- Story ties together really well from going from being recognized in your home city to Minfilia's group recruiting you, to the Grand Companies seeking you out.
- Your character has that feeling of importance like it did going through the 7th Umbral Story.
- Definitely has the "FF feel"

I got through the first few quests of the Lominsan storyline, but after testing some of the core features I decided to hold off until I can play as Moose. So far, I love it. But, I think that with this story's revelations, it is time to accept the undeniable truth:

Shot in the dark, but I think the easiest explanation is that the Ascians are beings of the Void. If we're the Warriors of Light, they are the Warriors of Dark.

Well regarding Ascians, this was revealed from the Level 15 quest:

They are also the Paragons that taught the beastmen how to summon their primals. They are also referred to as the "Bringers of Chaos". So there's your opposite of the Warriors of Light.

Perhaps we'll see Chaos in XIV? :P

And I forgot to check if the two masked hooded men had shadows or not.

The ascians discuss returning the world to its "true" form just as Dalamud goes pop.

I'm holding off on drawing conclusions till I can finish getting through the storylines of the three cities. Taveth has made it to just finishing the Copperbell Mines on the Ul'dah line. Thal will run through Gridania to fill the gaps we missed. I'll let Moose handle Limsa.

I have to say they seem to have made an effort to make it more obvious when we're in an echo, with the edges of the screen blurring and going slightly greyscale.

I thought that was a nice touch. They also play the music from 1.0 when you were in an Echo cutscene as well.

Yeah; once you knew how it worked in V1, you were like, "Well, that's a neat mechanism!" but at the same time, "How the hell was anybody supposed to know that before the story was an incoherent mess to them?" Having seen it in ARR, I think it was worth it to sacrifice that one mystery for a lot of clarity.

It was only after I found the lore posts that I even had a clue to what was happening in 1.0.
