No more "connect the dots" adventure? Now you're talking!

I've just ready a bunch of information on FFXV, and from what I've read the game will feature multiple cities and nations, airships, and an expansive world to explore! I hope I'm not disappointed in my speculations, but I believe that this may mean that the game won't be horribly linear like FFXIII was!

    Lightning who? lol

they came out and said it will be openworld after the city intro where leviathan rapes everything if im not mistaken. also 13-3 is purely open world, they confirmed that.

Am I the only one around here who thinks titles 7, 9, 10, and 12 were just as linear as 13?

I also enjoyed 13 a lot.. so heh. Which reminds me..

Whaa? It's hard to believe you're talking about the same games I think you're talking about. lol

I thought 13 was okay. Horribly linear and restrictive, but had a good story and visuals nonetheless. Then again, I also think they're stretching the story extremely thin with all the sequels. The story was good, but wasn't that good. lol Just my $0.02.

Almost every RPG game is linear plotwise, travel from A to B to progress the story. But every good RPG game gives you a world to EXPLORE!

Actually, he's not far off from the mark. VII, IX, X were all fairly linear as they led the characters (and the players) from one place to another place without much room for branching off. It was only near the end of the game that the world opened up, but even then, outside of a few side quests, there wasn't much reason to go to the places visited before. I, III, IV, and V were also pretty linear in terms of open-worldness. II, VI, and XI are pretty much the exception to the rule.

I felt like I had that when I got to Gran Pulse.

Perhaps it had some linear aspects. But in each of these, I also had other options. For instance, in FFXII I wasn't necessarily forced to move on from the town I was in. I could do some bounty hunting, look in some houses, do some shopping, or even, if I didn't want to move on with the story at present, leave town and go elsewhere an explore until I was ready to come back to the storyline. And even in their "unopened" stages, the worlds in the previous FFs held a lot more options. In XIII, it felt like I had a rope tied around my neck and was being forcefully pulled down a straight line. lol

Wow, in FFXII the storyline only consisted in like half of the game, the other half being all about side-questing and mark-hunting (meaning that it can either be a MASSIVE game or a really short one)
I haven't properly played XIII yet, so I don't feel justified to judge it, all I know is that it got a lot more critics than credits. I only hope that XIII-3 will get a better light from its' players.
