Love the use of "dumbed down" to try to make out you're a superior player.
Do you play FFXI as SE release it without any addons at all? Answer 'yes' and I won't believe you.
That said, I think they should be optional, I see no reason for SE not to provide an option to turn them on or off, clearly turning them off makes no difference to anyone else.
I would like to be able to toggle them on or off, a tacky red ring is going to turn many a lovely screenshot into something less attractive!
if all UI elements disappear when you scroll lock i think it will be ok, assuming its part of the UI

I didn't mention FFXI once in my explanation, I said it would look overly tacky and screw with the combat difficulty intended for ffxiv, causing people to complain about the game being too easy before long. This is not an interest to remove all ui, I'm saying there shouldn't be excessive ui.Love the use of "dumbed down" to try to make out you're a superior player.

There are other MMOs that didn't rely on this feature to the extent that is shown on the screenshot. A peiste is not a particularly rare enemy. What is the difference between the effects of lighting taking us out of the experience here and the ones in 1.0 with our own weapon skills?

This is soft. I would support a player action AoE circle...but for enemy abilities, no thanks. Half the fun of a boss fight is the "wtf just happened...back to the drawing board...figure out the range and shape of AoEs...rinse, repeat, win" part.
Well, at least it's not for ALL AOE enemy abilities.

It'll more than likely be the imporant ones though, which is depressing. Coincutter with AOE circles? Trolololol
