New Beastmen from Live Letter!

We had a big group watching live with commentary in GE's Twitch and we were all kind of like,

"Why is there a mamool here?"

I can see bringing over popular monster designs (and FFXI had some of the greatest in FF history, really), but existing beastmen that already have their own world and lore? Maybe they'd unique things with a unique story, but it's a used and established aesthetic...

I'll need convincing that this is a good idea...

Would you apply that same 'leave XI beastmen in XI' opinion to Goblins and Sahagin and Qiqirn?

The Final Fantasy series copies from itself ALL THE TIME...it's sort of what it's known for.

Technically, it's an "I need convincing this is a good idea" opinion.

The reason behind this is that Mamool Ja were unique to FFXI. Final Fantasy is known for copying itself, yes, but it's known for taking those familiarities and putting them in a new world with new civilizations. Very few carry over more than aesthetic, general behavior, and a few cultural traits.

Goblin: Introduced in FFI; Included in 12 whole-numbered installments
Sahagin: Introduced in FFI; Included in 10 whole-numbered installments

Qiqirn I thought deserved a pass. They're solid FFXI, but they were just the Goblins of Aht Urhgan; they didn't have much lore, they just hung around the wandering races and were funny. It's hard to violate that identity.

However, the unique races of the game, Orc, Yagudo, and Quadav, were also given analogous Aht Urhgan counterparts: Mamool, Lamia, and Trolls. These gave the game their enemy culture (even though Trolls were in FFI, they were traditional of folklore versions). Mamool Ja have only one history, and that history is deep. They are the main enemy of Aht Urhgan, they have nation, class structure, etc.

I'm not saying "Leave FFXI to FFXI," but unless Mamool made it out of XI as a new FF standard (like Tonberries did after FFV) that will start showing up in Final Fantasy XV+ (knock on wood), take it, quote box!

Based on how many monsters they're adding that don't look different in any way from FFXI and FFXII, I suspect this may be more about easy access to pre-developed ideas with low production time than it may be about ... anything else.

Who knows, though. Maybe it really was Atomos. Then what could I say? "Guess they're here now! Welcome to Eorzea! Hey, Tomy, get some Anticans while you're back there. Hell, get my Aegis while you're back there."

Yeah i could see Antican's showing up in Thanalan... seriously not trying to tie every possible beastmen race to a unique FFVIII summon but... I can't think of any summon beside Pandemona that wouldn't need work to fit them. I could totally imagine a wind god down in some Antican tunnels too, they need oxygen like anyone else don't they? And Pandemona looks the part to me with the awesomesauce of Anticans worshipping a hoover equipped anteater like god.

Amalj'aa had Drakes, Ixali had Wolves, Kobold had Will-o-Wisps and Bombs. Anticans with Ants would be a perfect match. As for a Primal, not a clue.

Kujuta has four thousand eyes, and the equal amount of ears, mouths, noses, tongues, and feet, with a distance of a journey of 500 years between each of them (e.g. from eye to eye). On the back of Kujuta is a giant mountain of ruby, and on top of that mountain is an angel, who supports six Hells, the Earth, and seven Heavens.

Kinda cool that it's associated with Bahamut...hint hint maybe maybe nudge nudge say no more a nod is good as a wink to a blind bat.
