hmmm they only lived for arguably 165 million years. While humankind has only graces earth's presence for roughly 200,000 years or so. I think they did a good job at lasting, while we appear to be spiraling downward pretty fast. I honestly wouldnt be surprised if mother nature takes us out within the next few thousand years with the amount of damage we continue to do. The longest we can survive, (on earth anyway) is about 5 billion years which would be a feat if we did it. I say this because in about 5 or so billion years, it's estimated the earth will crash into the sun. Though if we DO manage to live that long, I'd hope we had developed technology to get to one of the Gleise planets that have been discovered, or at least find a way to move every human possible onto a self-sustaining colony in space.
I realize you were just playing around....I just figured I'd be a bit of a smartalic back.

I'm also taller than you. It's awesome.
Actually, when the sun goes through its final phases, it's going to expand and engulf Earth and several of the other planets, then shrink before imploding into a black hole.hmmm they only lived for arguably 165 million years. True that. The red giant phase comes before the black hole implosion thing. Of course, by then, we'll all have mastered the technology to move ourselves to another planet and colonize it the way we're advancing. Well, either that or whatever god we worship will have come to earth and blown the whole planet up and everyone on it.
Either way, I don't care. I'll be a distant page in history by the time any of this happens. :P

But seriously, this conversation implies that we'll be able to hop off the planet at the last minute. Anyone consider the drastic climate problems we'll have even getting half as close to the sun? Plants will die, livestock will die, and we will die long before any cool fireworks (unless there's a surprise meteor.)
