Obviously you can't hold people accountable for not reading more than a few characters of text at a time. They are complaining because they have a wrong sense of entitlement.
Legacy was announced as well as the conditions were announced. Either you chose to meet them or you chose not to.
It does not matter if you played for 1 day or 1 year as long as you met the paid requirement - it is a thank you for supporting the game financially and quite frankly... it's not much really, it's just a kind little thank you.
Nice little legacy article for those interested
I didn't even know I had legacy and I didn't even know about the legacy campaign.

And like I've been saying, there was PLENTY OF WARNING! Rules are rules, and bending them would tarnish SE's already floundering reputation. Though I admit it's a shame you couldn't have made Legacy given you enjoyed 1.0.

*To qualify for a legacy account you must have subscribed for at least 90 days before June 30th 2012

I started on July 4th. Before that I was playing on XI and one of my good friends on XI told me to try XIV. I did and loved it. So I couldn't have known about Legacy, what it was, or retroactively buy it before that. I did get the Goobue mount.
I tried to get my BF who only played for 2 weeks back into 1.0, I crafted him +1 melded gear for his 15 job, showed him how cool the Van Darnus fight was, but he said he just didn't care about 1.0. and he quit the game again.
Saying ALL Legacy people supported the game is just false. While many did, I've also seen many people on my LS website with Legacy status very excited today, whom I never even saw in 1.0
Which is exactly why those people are getting emails today, to show them the new game and bring them back, people like myself will already be back, SE is trying to win those others who maybe tried the game and hated it at the start.
I didn't make this thread for Legacy to feel guilty, or prove who supported SE more when, and certainly not all the venomous responses.
I made it so I could voice my opinion to SE.
The only people who really lost out were the ones who didn't stick with 1.0 because it was a great game by the end, and I can't wait to get back for ARR.

I just wish everyone who played in 1.0 could be legacy. :c
I do agree that it is unfortunate for those people that joined the game too late, I know of some cases that decided to try out FFXIV when there was no more 90days sub (or they were still on trial and deciding if they liked the game) or was too late to pay for 3 months before the game went down... to this people I am sorry and I hope they do future deals where you all can get something close to Legacy, at least being able to have a discount subscription or something like it.
To the people that bought the game months ago, played some days and stopped and did not pay attention to their emails, or simply ignored anything FFXIV related... then you are the only one to blame for missing this opportunity, several emails were sent and there was multiple announcements on the lodestone....

They did support the game. Financially. Paying 3 months of subscription fees.
That's all it took. Nothing more, nothing less.
It's basically the same thing that "founder" programs in different games: within certain time frame you can pay a bit more for the game to get certain benefits.
I agree with this guy. SE should've let EVERYONE know about the legacy campaign. Even those who never even heard of FFXIV much less own a computer. It was THEIR responsibility to give everyone an equal chance.

I do remember there being e-mails sent to all XIV players (current and previous) and a few Lodestone posts. I think there was also a message you saw every time you logged in, but I'm not sure. Does anyone remember?

How about people that had account from 1.0 that will pay for next 10 months from ARR launch will have option to become Legacy Member.
This is hopefully support ARR for 10 months after launch for 1.0 accounts that want to become Legacy that didn't.
Will need least an active account since 1.0 and register it at the first month of ARR is launched.
Will need to have 10 months of payment after ARR launch within the first year.
