    And how is this a bad thing? You fight these NMs to obtain the items they give, not to have hours of entertainment. Even difficult fights get boring eventually.(In FFXI) Al'taieu and Tu'Lia's NMs were a blast!... the first few months. And those were not even the worst ones, as you had to walk around the zones and they had a few, poppable NMs instead of just one [Khimaira, Fafnir, Cerberus, etc... (biggest waste of my time in my life by a long shot)]. Missions entertain, they flow and take you through different places; you interact with NPCs and fight new, mission specific NMs and so on. But NMs are just that, a monster. It will get tiring, so why stretch it when you can just go fight it for what you want, get it and then move on to better stuff?

    Hmmm....Let's assume you don't miss any pops during the duration of the battles - always finish in less than 5 minutes and get a quick pop. Let's say group size is 6. (Most I have been in have been 6 or more). 10% drop rates. 2 groups fighting for claim...assume your group gets half the claims...

    Lazy math gets me: 1.2 drops per hour => 0.6 drops per hour your team => 10 hours to outfit your team of 6 with the gear (and the other team of 6).

    So I currently have a list of 11 items I would like to get. Let's say we camp NMs 3 hours a week - a casual amount to dedicate to this one facet of gameplay. It'll take my team of casuals only 10*11=110 hours of play time to collect the gear pieces wanted. That'll be sometime almost 37 weeks from now.

    For mid-level gear that even casual players can outgrow in a week....

    Now, I'm sure as more people start getting the gear, there will be far fewer people camping the gear. Which means eventually my lil merry band will be able to fight the NMs without a claim battle first. Even so, assuming we have no claim battles at all, we will get our gear in at best 55 hours of play time => only18 weeks from now.

    Or you can take your r50 and in a solo/duo go do the same thing. You'll gear up faster, and acheive objectives faster. Let's say you get two r50s together and you go duoing the new NMs. You get 83% of the claims, cause you fast on the trigger => 10 drops per hour => 1 rare drop per hour => 2 hours per NM to outfit your duo. 20 NMs keeps you busy for 40 hours, so go gear up. That's 40 hours of content you didn't have before that gets you some fun/pretty new gear to level your second/third/fourth r50 with.

    Seems like a win-win....


    PS...someone could do real probability analysis on the drops and maybe we'd get some more interesting math...

    So i have just killed Bomb Baron like 25 times with no drop...

    Would suck to have to wait HOURS for it to respawn, all for a r30 sword.

    Hey! If we put it on a 24 pop timer, then no one would have the sword for an entire month!! And SE would have created a decades worth of content for people to do....

    Please make each individual battle more challenging. Please make the NMs have cool moves/special effects that have be managed. Make the game more challenging by making the battles challenging...(although I haven't used my r27 CNJ in a baby NM battle yet, and I probably should be before commenting on difficulty)

    I don't see the point of this argument. Battle content should be challenging because the fight itself is challenging. Having to understand AI scripts and patterns, manage MP, and use teamwork takes skill. Waiting for a 24 hour pop does not take skill. Botting for a claim or living close to the game servers does not take skill. The content/drops should be reached/obtained by those with skill, not by those who have the most time on their hands.

    I'm not saying this game has much content that requires skill, but making mid-level NMs have ridiculous pop times is not a way to rectify that problem.

    Also, the NMs most certainly don't have "100% drop rates" As a r30 THM, I can solo all of the r36 NMs (Which takes about 15 minutes a fight) and I'm about 1/40 with drops so far.

    I know right! It's like people complain "Gimmie mah NM!" They get it, and they still aren't happy. Hey for everyone complaining about spawn times...do this...simply just log off for days on end, come back and see if it's up when you log in...if not...go do something else... blah!

    I just have a feeling that no matter what is done to this game, people will always have something to complain about. They could grant every wish of every player, but there is always someone who is going to complain! I hope that when the devs read this stuff, they seriously take everything into consideration when adding content...including the NM's...cause seeing forum after forum of people complaining...makes my head hurt @_@

    I dont see an 24hr-pop NM pose any greater challenge than a 3-5mins pop NM, assuming they have equal strength. 24hrs-pop NM is more time-WASTING though. Unless you think time-wasting=challenge.....

    You're missing the point. People like longer pop times because it makes the encounter more special. If you get the claim, it is so much more rewarding. If you get the drop, it is so much more rewarding. See the point? The challenge of the fight is entirely separate.

    Like I said earlier, would anyone give a damn about a Ridill if there was an opportunity to obtain it every 5 minutes? Much of the pleasure derived is from the knowledge that you have obtained a rare piece of gear or are participating in a fight against a rare mob. It cheapens the experience if you can fight a given NM whenever you wish.


    Let me reiterate that the pop timer on these mobs doesn't bother me. I'm referring specifically to HNM and why I would object to having similar timers on ground king-like NMs.
