Who's upgrading their system for the ARR (Beta or Release) (Specs?)

those graphics cards are gonna slow you down in the long run. Im guessing it was within the budget or? If budget was not too bad of an issue get SLI 500's (whichever u can afford) or go with 1 670. ( you dont really need SLI unless you are running a dual monitor setup and even then you dont, just for performance with higher resolutions it works a lot better)

Well, for FFXIV ARR being less of a Graphics hog, these specs are alright. Sure he could use a better GPU, but it's not necessary for this game. I do suggest him to get better GPU(s) but it's not a must.

However if he's looking for top-notch Graphics then yes, he most def needs a New GPU.

Well all I could afford is the cpu, motherboard, and memory. I used my 470's from my old setup. So maybe I can play at medium settings without any problems. I will upgrade video cards later on.

My old PC struggled a bit on the old XIV, so I've done some upgrades.

CPU: Intel core 2 Duo @ 3.0 GHz > Intel Core i5-3470 @ 3.2GHz
RAM: 4GB DDR2 > 16GB DDR3
Storage: 1TB HDD (everything) > 120GB SSD (installations) + 1TB HDD (stuff)
GPU: ATI Radeon HD 5700 series (unchanged)
Mum: ASUS P8 H77-M Pro (new, to accommodate new CPU/RAM)

When my v1.x struggled, it was on the data processing, not the graphics, so I figured I'd beef up the old dual-core CPU now and wait to see how my graphics go on beta before I consider a new GPU.

Yeah, that's what I would do in your situation. It's not Necessary to upgrade right away.

Just built a new PC about 2 weeks ago, everything cept my old GPU.

CPU: i5 3570k
Mobo: Gigabyte UD3H
RAM: Gskill Sniper 8GB
SSD: OCZ Vertex4 120gb
Storage: WD 500gb
GPU: 6850 OC
Case: CM Storm Enforcer

I'm super happy with it so far, huge upgrade from my old system. It is eagerly awaiting FFXIV ARR.

GTX 470.......*shudder* the noise, the heat,..........THE NOISE!!! Unless the original fermi was on water they were awful.


As for my system(s), one system runs with a 3960x @ 4.6Ghz paired with 64GB of ram and 2 7970s
The other is a 3770k @ at 4.5Ghz with 16GB ram and 2 GTX 680s.

Both are are using cutom waterloops for cooling.
The rest is just a bunch of home media servers and dedicated game servers.


oh and for those who're wonder why 64GB of ram. Majority of it is used as a ramdisk.

Just looking at it your system isnt that bad. Your system is a bit outdated and xp home is only using 3.5 of your 4 gigs of ram. (is prolly ddr2 ram as well so that is a smidge outdated)

Depends on your budget but i can point you in the right direction. and get you a nicer build, but you said you have never built one so. I dont like prebuilt PC's.
