PvP is a must in current mmos because you need some competitive aspect to the game that players can play over and over and test there skills against actual players. Yoshi-P already said he was big in to PvP so I am sure he will do a good job with it.
Yeah XI did well cuz 11 years MMOs where for niche players only...
You forgot that ARR it's supposed to compete vs the modern MMOs (Yoshida said this many time) ,
and guess what? Every modern (and not..) MMOs have PvP ...
Another thing, i don't care about PvP (i'm mostly a PVE player) but i care for the game success :/
Better then the pvp in wow hopefully, Though it would be rather hard to just fight each other cause you made the mistake of killing a guard or other pvp marked npc and getting pvp stats yourself....Unless...never mind

I agree Forgo, I think FF is the exception to the, MUST have PVP, FFXI was a great example of that. Yes, I did it when I was bored out of my gourd, but it was never anything that I looked forward to. As with all things this is my personal opinion I certainly don't think they should delay beta release to implement PVP, nor do I think that's was a huge reason 1.0 failed. PVP is not fundamental to FF that's why Yoshi-p has not focused on it. Give it time it'll come around.
There's plenty of PvP based MMOs on the market as is. XIV also is a failed MMO which is an image that you can't easily erase. Why jump ship to FFXIV for PvP when you can stick with the MMO you've already been dedicated to? He may be big on PvP but there's a reason people hop from MMO to MMO very quickly and very easily.
SE really doesn't need that to happen with ARR but it will if people honestly think PvP is the key reason to make an MMO good. It's well known based on the series and last FF MMO that it'd be a PvE centric game.
Straight from SE: Final Fantasy XI is their most profitable title. Being niche is definitely a bad thing. Agreed. It made them no money whatsoever.

This is what the wife and I use now:If only it wasn't awful...
I know, but I find that controller unnecessarily large and heavy, the batteries terrible (that bulky nickel battery they sell separately), the d-pad hideous, and the asymmetrical sticks uncomfortable. So yeah, no. :/
I've been looking for an alternative, but I guess I'll still have to deal with MotionInJoy if I want a reliable (and comfortable) wireless controller.

The price is nice and low for a gamepad that is wireless, USB Re-chargeable (yay no batteries needed), has a rumble feature if you install the drivers but the controller functions without drivers (just no rumble). Quality wise it is surprising. It feels nice, has a good weight..not too heavy but not so light it's cheap feeling. Neither of us have had any problems with them since purchase over a year ago now.
If you don't live in the UK and don't mind importing:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...1&s=videogames
Cost a little more but no importing needed:
http://www.amazon.com/SPEEDLINK-STRI.../dp/B0046A8HU0
The only downside I can think of is that it does not come with the USB cable for re-charging. However, it is the same kind of cable the PS3 controllers use for recharge...so you likely have one laying around the house...and if not they are cheap to buy.

Both links actually end up costing almost the same if you do the conversion. XDThis is what the wife and I use now:

Thanks for that one. It's actually like $5 cheaper than the DS3, and has native compatibility. I may get that one.
